Towers of towels, piles of sweatshirts, and a mountain of jeans? Go for it. The Ultra Large Capacity (4.7 cu.ft.) washer lets you do more laundry in fewer loads. That’s time saved and sore backs avoided.

The hottest thing in cold clean

Using the cold cycle on your washer doesn’t have to mean compromising. ColdWash™ technology uses cold water and enhanced washing motions to penetrate deep into fabrics, giving you cold water savings with warm water performance.

Catch the wave

If you thought water had done all it could to clean your clothes, you haven't experienced WaveForce™ technology. Rapid drum movement and powerful water jets provide a revolutionary washing and rinsing experience.

Get wise

Get wise

If you ever experience an issue with your LG dryer, you don't have to worry. The SmartDiagnosis™ feature helps the service center diagnose problems over the phone, or with a simple app on your smart phone, helping you minimize costly, inconvenient service calls.

Count on it

When you buy a washer, you want something reliable that you can count on. Because the Direct Drive Motor uses fewer moving parts and operates more efficiently, LG confidently backs the motor with a 10-year limited warranty.

Wash in peace

You shouldn’t know your washer is on when you're in the next room. The LG TrueBalance™ anti-vibration system is designed to minimize washer noise and vibration for smooth, quiet performance in any room of the house - even on the 2nd floor.

Save money. Save energy.

Save money. Save energy.

When your washer uses about 30% less energy and half the amount of water used by regular washers, you’re going to make an impact—on your utility bills, your energy and water consumption, and most importantly, the environment.

What People Are Saying

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 339 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Reliable Machine Great reliability, sometimes stalls due to uneven loads with large blankets, but otherwise runs smoothly and quietly. Have not had to repair yet in 2 years. Only drawback is that it seems to use a lot of water compared to other styles. July 5, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Horrible Laundry Experience Those of you with young children understand how critical it is to have a functional washing machine. Well, I have 2 kids and this washing machine has made laundry the bane of my existence. I have owned it for over 2 years and it is terrible. I completely agree with the people that have posted about it becoming unbalanced easily. I cannot do a load of towels without it becoming unbalanced, and we've tried to shift the feet, move the washer, etc, to no avail. In addition, the wash cycles are way too long--it takes at least double the time if not more to do what my old, cheap washing machine could do in 30 minutes. You know how people sometimes take their appliances with them when they move from their house? If we ever sell our house, this machine will stay with the house and I will be all too glad to be rid of it. You can put all the features you want in the machine, but if it can't perform the basic function it exists to perform there's no point. And that is the situation here. March 3, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by perfect helper I got both the washer and dryer and I couldn't be happier. They're quiet and give me tons of options. I love that once registered, lg will e-mail tips and random things about your product. I smile every time I hear the end of cycle chime. February 5, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by This product is high quality and well worth it. Love this washer!! The features are very nice. Everything is high quality. Very happy with my purchase. November 18, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by LG made me hate laundry more than before If you want a true unbiased review, look on Amazon. The reviews for this washer are way different than the LG website. When I bought over a year ago, there weren't many reviews of this machine out there. It gets off balance a minimum of 5 times per load. It doesn't seem to matter what I am washing or what settings I use. I despise laundry because I can't leave the kitchen. It seems to do a decent job washing the clothes once it actually finishes a cycle but washing one load now takes twice as long. I do however love the matching gas dryer. It is very hot. About half the time I have to give up spinning in the washer because I have to re-balance every 2 minutes and dry the dripping wet clothes an extra long time. I'm sure that's why my gas bill now so high:) November 18, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by This is a very good product. A lot of thinking went into this equipment and it shows. Everything works as it's supposed to. It takes a while to get used to the new technology, but after a thorough reading of a pretty good instruction manual, one is off and running while using less water and power. One addition I would like to see is specific handling of silk, as this fabric doesn't work that well in the Wool cycle even though it's a gentle cycle. December 1, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Everything great in a wash machine! Nice and quiet and it NEVER gets off balance! It does get clothes clean!!! Some may say it don't have enought water. But this machine knows what it is doing. I love my LG wash machine so much I went back and bought the matching gas dryer with stream! A great investment. This tub is so big I can never fill it up. With the old washers even the biggest tub was to small. Big bedspreads for a king size bed, fits just fine with room to spare. It's worth every penny!!! October 5, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by This product is great! I'm very pleased with my new LG washer and dryer. The washer runs very quietly, leaving our clothes clean and fresh smelling, and the dryer leaves our clothes wrinkle free, especially when we use the "steam fresh" button. November 10, 2014

I'm interested in model WT5170, or other models depending on the decibel ratings. I must have a quieter washing machine!
Thank you.

Answer:
My old washing machine was an agitator model, and during the spin cycle, I could feel the floor vibrate and it sounded terrible. That washer was about 7 years old. I have a hearing aid so I am sensitive to annoying sounds. While I do not know the decibel rating of my newly purchased LG 5170, (it is properly installed in the laundry room--above basement level) there is no vibration and it is very quiet. The wall to the laundry room is next to our family room. The washer sound no longer interferes with our family gatherings or watching TV.

Answer:
Yes, it does. The heater is active only on the "white" and "sanitary" cycles. The "coldwash" cycle was NOT added to eliminate using the heater. "Coldwash" was added to improve cleaning using cold water by increasing the water level, lengthening the wash time and providing a more vigorous wash motion.

Answer:
This washer does have a built in water heater. That is why LG added the "coldwash" option to 'eliminate using the built-in water heater booster." Hope this was helpful.

Is there an option for hand wash/delicates?

I think I read in the manual to wash delicates on the wool setting. Is that correct and would that be true for hand wash?

Answer:
Use the "Delicate" setting -- it washes and rinses with cold water. The agitation is very, very gentle so it may not be strong enough for blouses and such things. "Wool" is the same except that the water is warm. Which cycle you choose depends on what you would do if you were hand-washing. Warning: Watch the water level during the wash part of the cycle. You may need to add more water as I often find that there's not enough water to get the clothes properly wet or submerged.

Answer:
The WOOL cycle is for washing shrinkable woolen or hand-washable items requiring delicate care. Only wash woolen items that are labeled machine washable or hand-washable. The DELICATE cycle is for washing lingerie or sheer and lacy clothes which can easily be damaged.

Always use High Efficiency (HE) detergent and/or bleach. Powdered detergent and Powdered color-safe bleach may be added to the main wash compartment once the liquid detergent cup has been removed.

Does this style washer have the capacity to wash a king-size comforter? If not, which other models would you suggest. I would prefer a top-loader. Jody
