Rated 1 out of 5 by from Substandard product with lacking features For a product that is meant to be the top of the LG line with dual HD tuners, 3D/2D capability, and USB, DVD and Blu-ray recording and dubbing, this product is disappointing and difficult to use. I summarize the areas where the problems lie first, and will later comment on my user experience highlight specific instances and interactions around these problem areas, as well as noting that most of these problems could be fixed with a simple software fix, while some would seem to result from a lack of software power, and of course there are also deficiencies in the manual. 1. USB(-HDD), HDD & DISC controls misleading and unintuitive, and not always functional. 2. Pausing live TV is not without possible without initiating a recording, then finding and playing it, and then remembering to delete it. Although it has Instant Replay and Instant Skip buttons, these only work in recordings, although chase play is possible. 3. Although four aspect scaling modes are available, they are poorly described in the manual, incorrectly described in the on-screen settings dialogue, and the automatic adjustment doesn't work correctly. 4. Subtitles can't be switched on an off with a button press, but require at list three (more if there are actually different languages to choose from). 5. Subtitles don't automatically switch on and of when muting as with some competing products. 6. Recording scheduling via the EPG (Guide button) only allows recording of one specific scheduled program and the options to specify date/daily/weekly recording are greyed out and have to be done using a separate Timer Recording mode (TIMER REC button). 7. Recording via the EPG doesn't allow title or keyword search or scheduling as in competing products. 8. There are dubbing and recording restrictions, and in particular it is not possible to record directly onto DVD or with higher compression. 9. The USB drive has to be formatted and registered before it can be used with the machine, and is registered to a specific unit so that it cannot even be used with another unit of the same model. 10. Playing a DVD (etc.) is hard and at times I have been unable to resume playing a DVD without an eject (open/close) intervention. Pressing the DISC button followed by Play usually works, but not always. 11. Even when no (or a readonly) BD is in the drive it will try to record onto it and require escaping from warning messages and activating the HDD button before a recording can be started. 12. There are some issues with the manual, particularly in relation to the above, and it could do with an index as material. I spent a lot of time trying to find discussion pertinent to some of the above issues. 13. There was some delay/difficulty getting it to show the time corresponding to the time zone. This maybe just that it was very slow - maybe is it loaded the whole EPG first. Given it scans for stations, it should be able to adjust location/timezone quickly and automatically rather than having to set the state. 14. I also wasn't happy that it doesn't play out of region DVDs/BDs but I guess that is par for the course, and some of the other problems relate to their approach to DRM. My initial experience was fairly positive and the process of setting up and tuning went ahead nicely until it showed Sydney time instead of Adelaide time. I didn't plan on reading the manual, but eventually read the whole thing twice after discovering the above insoluble problems. The manual was quite well written and well organized, but there were still some issues with the English, and some things that were hard to track down (admittedly some weren't there because they are missing capabilities). Most of the problems would easily be fixable with a firmware upgrade - especially the interface infelicities and inconsistencies. Most of the dubbing and recording restrictions presumably relate to lack of processing power - a model that dealt with these would have been worth the extra $50. The wiping of the USB and some of the dubbing restrictions clearly relate to their DRM approach. But I can't see why they don't want you recording on one of their machines and playing back on another - except that they do want to stop unlimited coping of the content that is restricted. Overall, a disappointing purchase - and the much cheaper 5-year old equipment (PVR and DVD) it is replacing is better in respect of most of the above points!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from This product has many faults Have had this product for 2 years and worked fine until recently thought it may have just needed an update but update feature says no update available, that it is up to date. I will turn the product on and it just freezes and loading is displayed on screen, unplugging for 30 seconds or pressing reset sometimes fixes this straight away other times i have to repeat this several times before unit works correctly, discs sometimes dont get recognised when they are inserted and the unit freezes will not play eject disc or anything until unit is unplugged or reset. I have a LG smart TV connected to it by HDMI and have the HDMI simplink connected on both units but it never works or only works on rare occassions. I have searched for solutions to this and all feedback sites have reccomended that i purchase a diffrent brand that this model of LG is filled with faults. I might also add that the product did not have any problems until the 2 year warranty had expired.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product has really good features Dear Buyers Just wanted to share with you my experience of this LG Blu-Ray Disc Recorder. I have this unit since june of 2013. So far it seems to be OK. I have recorded many things and you have an option to record shows on many different formats, so that you have more space on your HDD. Yeah its a good product with an economical price tag, I haven't tried other brands so I am new to these devices. Just a few times it stopped operating so It had to be unplug from the power source a few times and re-plug it back and it should be OK. All Good, enjoy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just What I Wanted.... Bought this product 9 months ago and couldn't be happier, plays Blu-ray & DVD flawlessly. 3D Blu-ray is awesome. Have used the HDD to record digital TV and couldn't be happier my programs are always there and with the unit networked to my home gateway i can watch my recorded programs on my bedroom's LG smart TV if i like. Because it is networked firmware updates are not an issue. The only negative i have for this unit is that it is not multi-region, I have still had to keep my Sony multi-region Blu-ray to watch my overseas Blu-rays and DVD's. It would be great if LG brought out a multi-region model, I'd definitely BUY IT.....

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not happy I purchase the player on the 17th May, it kept seizing up whilst playing back, Southern Cross and affiliates. Missed the V8s on Sunday. Took it back to H/N, seems it needed a firmware up date. Took it to a technician. He did the update overnight. Received it back this arvo. Will try it tonight. Not happy purchasing a dud player, with an update requirement, that H/N knew about. LG should have sent out the firmware update, so not to cause this inconvenience..

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Never again My husband purchased this in the boxing day sales (26th December 2012) Within 25 days it wasn't working properly. The player would turn itself off when watching a DVD. We took it back to the store we purchased it from and they told us to take it home and call LG. LG recommend an update - this DIDN"T work. Next step was to take it to a electronic place to get fixed - This took 3 weeks - Problem seemed to be fixed with new parts. 2 months after being to the electronic place the problem reappeared. After calling LG to inform them the told us to take it back to the electronic place AGAIN. Having this product has been a huge inconvenience to us. I would never buy an LG product again... The support you receive from the company (LG) is terrible. I feel like the player has spent more time being repaired then it has at our home.
