[LG Refrigerator] Dealing with Fruit Flies Inside

Troubleshooting

Let's find out more.

Refrigerators are sealed to prevent cold air from escaping, so insects like fruit flies can't get in.
The cold temperature also prevents them from breeding.
However, fruit flies can enter when you open the door, attracted by food odors or the refrigerator light.
Keep your sink and garbage area clean to prevent fruit flies.

Try this.

Do you see fruit flies around your sink or garbage can?

➔ Keep these areas clean to prevent insects from gathering.

Fruit flies cannot enter a sealed refrigerator.
However, if there are fruit flies in your home, they can be attracted by food odors or the light when you open the refrigerator door.
Fruit flies are drawn to food smells, so regularly clean your sink and garbage disposal to remove food residue.

Is the refrigerator door slightly ajar?

➔ Always make sure the refrigerator door is completely closed.

Insects can enter if the refrigerator door isn't fully closed. Remove any items on top of the refrigerator that might prevent the door from closing properly.
Also, check that shelves are correctly installed and that the refrigerator isn't overpacked, as these can also prevent the door from sealing completely.

Is there food residue or damage on the door gasket?

➔ Clean the gasket to prevent fruit flies from being attracted by food odors and entering the refrigerator.
Replace the gasket if it's damaged.

A refrigerator's sealed interior and cold temperature prevent insects from entering and breeding.
However, the area where the gasket contacts the refrigerator can be warmer, attracting fruit flies.
Food residue on the gasket can attract fruit flies, which may hide in crevices and enter when the door is opened.
Clean the gasket with a toothbrush or sponge and rubbing alcohol.
If the gasket is torn, contact LG Customer Service for a replacement.

Wait! Here are more tips.
Fruits and vegetables can harbor insect larvae or eggs.
Wash or prepare produce before storing it in the refrigerator to prevent insects from appearing inside.
