What to do if the interior light in your LG refrigerator is missing or not working

Troubleshooting
  • Small refrigerators (under 300 liters/ approx. 10.6 cu. ft.) do not include a freezer light by design to maximize internal storage space. This is not a defect.
  • The opening on the ceiling of the refrigerator compartment is an air vent, not a missing light fixture.
  • If the interior light has stopped working, it may be a burned-out bulb or a power issue. Please follow the troubleshooting steps below.

What to do if the interior light in your LG refrigerator is missing or not working

If the interior light does not turn on or appears to be missing when you open the refrigerator door, try the troubleshooting steps below before contacting LG Customer Support.

Check if your model has a freezer light

In smaller refrigerators, the freezer is often filled with food, which can block the light. For this reason, some models are designed without a freezer light to maximize storage space.

  • Small refrigerators (under 300 liters / approx. 10.6 cu. ft.):
The freezer does not include a light, but the refrigerator compartment does.
  • Standard refrigerators (400 liters / approx. 14.1 cu. ft. or more):
    Both compartments include lights.

Check if the opening on the refrigerator compartment ceiling is an air vent

If you notice an empty opening on the ceiling of the refrigerator compartment that looks like a missing light fixture, it is actually an air vent for cold air circulation.
Rest assured, no parts are missing. Make sure no objects get inside the opening.

Check the light bulb and replace it if needed

If your model has an interior light that is no longer working, the bulb may have burned out. Light bulbs are consumable parts that you can easily replace yourself.

  1. 1. For safety, unplug the refrigerator from the power outlet.
  2. 2. Carefully remove the light cover.
  3. 3. Remove the old bulb and replace it with a new one of the correct wattage.
(Refer to the product user manual on the LG website for the correct bulb type.)

Caution

For your safety, always unplug the refrigerator before replacing the light bulb.

Check the refrigerator’s power connection

If the interior light is not working and the refrigerator or freezer is not cooling, it is likely a power issue.

  1. 1. Unplug the refrigerator, then plug another appliance, such as a hair dryer, into the same wall outlet to check if the outlet has power.
  2. 2. If the other appliance does not work either, check if your home's circuit breaker has tripped.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. The light still doesn’t turn on after replacing the light bulb. What should I do?
A. If the light does not turn on after replacing the light bulb, there may be an issue with the internal socket or the door switch (the sensor that turns the light on when you open the door).
If this happens, please contact LG Customer Support for service.
