To replace the water filter in your LG refrigerator, prepare a new
filter compatible with your model. Turn the old filter counterclockwise
to remove it, then insert the new filter and turn it clockwise to secure
it.
After replacing the filter, dispense approximately 2.5 gallons (9.5
liters) of water. Finally, press and hold the Water Filter button on the
control panel for 3 seconds to reset the indicator.
- Replace the water filter approximately every 6 months.
- Check the filter sooner if water dispenses slowly or the Water Filter Replacement indicator turns on.

How to Replace Your Water Filter
Step 1. Close the Water Supply Valve and Drain the Remaining Water
- Close the water supply valve connected to your refrigerator.
- Press the dispenser paddle to drain any remaining water from the line.
- Place a towel or cup under the filter to catch any drips.
Some models allow you to replace the filter without closing the valve, so check the owner’s manual first.
Step 2. Remove the Old Filter
The removal method varies by filter model.
Remove the top shelf and move it to the lowest level. Remove
the lamp cover by pressing the tab under the cover and pulling
out toward the front.
Remove the old filter by turning it to the left until the
unlocked symbol is lined up with the indicator line and pull
it down.
Remove the old cartridge. Rotate the knob of the cartridge
counterclockwise.
When the cartridge is removed it will click out of place. Pull
out the cartridge.
The filter housing is located on the far back left of the
inside cabinet.
Remove any obstacles that impede the
water filter housing's full range of motion; this may include
the top left shelf.
Press the push button on the filter
housing and pull downward.
Remove the old water filter
by pulling all the way downward, and then gently pull towards
you until it releases and pops out.
At this point there may be a small amount of water drainage.
To catch any waste, use a paper towel or cup.
Open the refrigerator doors and remove the bottom door bin.
Grab the bottom of the old filter and turn it counterclockwise
to remove it from the filter head.

Disassemble the filter cover. The filter is mounted on the
left side of the fresh zone in the refrigerator.
Remove
the left side fresh zone drawer. Push, then pull out the
bottom side of the filter cover to remove it.
Turn the handle on the filter you wish to replace to the left
by 90 degrees.
Pull forward on the handle to remove the filter.
Open the refrigerator doors and remove the bottom door bin.
Grab the bottom of the old filter and turn it counterclockwise
to remove it from the filter head.

Step 3. Install the New Water Filter
- Remove the packaging and protective cap from the new filter.
- Align the tabs on the filter with the slots in the filter housing, and then push the filter in completely.
- Turn the filter clockwise until it is securely locked in place. Make sure the lock mark aligns with the reference line.
- Reinstall any covers, shelves, or door bins you removed.
- If the filter does not turn smoothly, pull it out, align it correctly, and push it straight in before turning it again.
Step 4. Flush the New Filter and Reset the Indicator
- Slowly open the water supply valve and check for leaks.
- Dispense approximately 2.5 gallons (9.5 liters) of water to remove trapped air and fine particles.
- Dispense water for 30 seconds, pause for 60 seconds, and repeat for a total of 5 minutes.
- Press and hold the Water Filter or Filter Reset button on the control panel for 3 seconds.
- The reset is complete when you hear a chime or the indicator turns off.
