If your LG refrigerator is not dispensing water, first, check whether
the water supply valve under the sink is open.
If the valve is
open, the issue may be caused by a kinked water supply hose, a clogged
water filter, or a frozen component inside the refrigerator compartment.
Why Is Your LG Refrigerator Not Dispensing Water?
Your refrigerator may not dispense water for any of the following reasons:
- The household water supply valve is closed.
- The water supply hose is kinked or pinched.
- The water filter is clogged with debris.
- The refrigerator temperature is set too low, causing the internal water tank or water line to freeze.
How to Fix Water Dispensing Issues
Step 1. Check Whether the Water Supply Valve Under the Sink Is Open
Check the area where the refrigerator’s water supply hose is connected, such as inside the cabinet under the sink. If the water supply valve is closed, water cannot flow to the refrigerator. Turn the valve to open it.
Step 2. Check the Water Supply Hose for Kinks
Water may not flow properly if the water supply hose is sharply bent or compressed by a heavy object. Check the hose behind the refrigerator and under the sink. If any part of the hose is kinked, straighten it by hand.
Step 3. Replace the Water Filter
If your home uses groundwater, minerals and other particles in the
water may clog the water filter faster.
A clogged filter can reduce the water flow or stop it completely, so
you may need to replace the filter more often.
Replace the water filter if the indicator on your refrigerator display turns on, or if it is past its recommended replacement time
Step 4. Adjust the Refrigerator Temperature
Where Is the Temperature Sensor in the Refrigerator Compartment?
The sensor locations are shown in the following order:
- Bottom Freezer refrigerator
- Side-by-Side refrigerator
- Top Freezer refrigerator
- Modern Edge refrigerator
The location may vary depending on the model.
If your refrigerator has a water tank or filter inside the
compartment, setting the temperature too low can freeze the tank,
filter, or water line. Food blocking the temperature sensor can also
cause incorrect temperature readings.
Clear any food away from the sensor. Then, increase the refrigerator
temperature setting by 1 to 2 degrees and check whether the water
dispenses normally.
Step 5. Fill the Built-In Water Tank
If your model has a built-in water tank, you must fill it manually with filtered water before the refrigerator can dispense it. Fill the tank with water, and reinstall it securely.
Step 6. Still need help?
If the issue persists after following the steps above, you can get further support through LG Chatbot on our website or by requesting a technician visit.
Warning
-
If water is leaking from the water supply hose or connection, close
the water supply valve immediately.
Unattended leaks may cause electric shock or property damage.
FAQ
- Q. Will the Ice Maker Stop Making Ice If the Water Supply Valve Is Closed?
- A. Yes. When the valve is closed, water cannot flow into the refrigerator or reach the ice maker. As a result, the ice maker will stop making ice.
- Q. The Water Filter or Water Tank Is Frozen, and Water Is Not Dispensing. How Can I Thaw It?
- A. Carefully thaw the frozen area using a steam cleaner or a warm, damp towel. After thawing, check for water leaks, as expanding ice may cause small cracks in the water tank or line.
