LG Dish Washer - Odor

Troubleshooting

Odor from new product

It is normal for a new unit to emit odors the first few times they are operated as buying a new car.

This may present as a burning smell , plastic smell , rubber smell , a fishy odor , or even a warm burning smell .

This can be caused by the heating of new motor coils and insulation material around the motor heating up.

It should go away after 10 or 20 full cycles.

Food debris in filters and sump assembly (Food waste odor)

1. Check filter.

If there are food items trapped in these locations the debris will need to be cleared away to prevent.

2. Dirty dishes left inside unit

Dirty dishes that are left in the dishwasher for a period of time may cause odor.

If dishes are loaded and left in the unit until it is full, it may be necessary to run a quick cycle to prevent unwanted odors

from accumulating in the unit between washes.

To remove odor, run an empty cycle with detergent or 1 cup of white distilled vinegar poured in a deep saucer and placed on the upper rack

3. Infrequent use of the unit

If the unit is not used very often, odor an arise form food residue, particles, and trace amounts of water that are left in the air tight space inside.

To remove odor, run an empty cycle with either detergent or 1 cup of white distilled vinegar poured in a deep saucer and placed on the upper rack.

(Recommend for the customer to leave the door slightly open after every cycle so that remaining water will evaporate and prevent odor.)

Drain hose connection check (sewer odor)

1. Water puddling in the unit after a cycle has finished

If water puddles in the bottom of the unit this could be the cause of the odor. Check for kinks in the dishwasher’s drain hose and make sure

it’s installed in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the installation guide.

2. Check the drain hose connect to the sink drain

It is important for the drain hose to be connected properly. If not, water will not drain properly and can back up into the unit. This can cause odors.

Be sure that the drain hose does not exceed the maximum length, and that is connected before the S-trap, and that it runs down and not up to the connection.

Maintenance steps for odor

Maintenance should be performed periodically to remove odor that may occur from trace amounts of water in the unit.

The door has a water/air tight seal so trace moisture can not evaporate when the door is shut.

To remove odor, run an empty cycle with either detergent or 1 cup of white distilled vinegar poured in a deep saucer and placed on the upper rack.

Is the top spray arm able to rotate freely? Are any of the holes clogged?

If Yes: If the top spray arm is clogged by food particles, it can cause odor in the tub. Check the water jet holes and the shaft of the top spray arm to be sure t

hey are not blocked by food particles. When cleaning is necessary, remove the arm by disassembling the 2 hooks from the bracket

which hold the top spray arm assembly to the tub. Remove the top spray arm and clean it. Reassemble in reverse order and check to see if it rotates freely.

If No : Service may be required to diagnose and correct the issue.
