If Your Front-Load Washer Shows an FE Error (Overfilling)

Troubleshooting

An FE error code appears on the display when the washer overfills with water.

Caution

  • Prepare a container before removing the drain pump filter to prevent water from spilling onto the floor.
  • Be careful when draining the remaining water, as it may be hot.

Why Is the Washer Overfilling?

  • Using too much detergent may create excessive suds.
  • Debris may block the hose connected to the water level sensor.
  • A clogged drain pump filter may prevent water from draining properly.
  • Cold weather may cause your water supply hose or drain hose to freeze.

How to Check and Resolve an Overfilling Issue

Step 1. Use the Correct Type and Amount of Detergent

Using too much regular detergent may create excessive suds, delay draining, or trigger a suds detection error. Use only the recommended amount of detergent for your washer.

Step 2. Clean the Drain Pump Filter

Cleaning the drain pump filter after opening the filter cover
  1. 1.Open the service cover at the bottom front of your washer. Drain the remaining water through the residual water hose. Turn the drain pump filter counterclockwise to remove it.
  2. 2.Use a small brush to remove threads, coins, and other debris from the filter. Rinse the filter thoroughly, and then reinstall it securely.

Step 3. Check and Thaw Your Water Supply and Drain Hoses

If a hose is frozen, pour warm water (about 120–140°F or 50–60°C) into your washer drum and close the door to help thaw it. You can also wrap a warm towel around the frozen section of the hose until the ice melts.

Step 4. Run Your Washer to Check if the Error Has Cleared

After cleaning the filter and thawing your hoses, run a Spin cycle. Check that the water drains properly and that the error code no longer appears.

Step 5. Still Need Help?

If the issue persists after following the steps above, you can get further support through LG Chatbot on our website or by requesting a technician visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can Hardened Detergent Residue in the Dispenser Cause Overfilling or a Water Level Sensor Error?
A. Yes, it can. Hardened detergent residue in the automatic detergent dispenser or manual detergent compartment may cause too much concentrated detergent to enter the washer drum at once. This can create a sudden buildup of excessive suds.
