[LG Laptop Heats] Laptop generates too much heats

Troubleshooting

Does the bottom of laptop generate too much heat that can interfere with normal use of the laptop?
Does your hand feel hot there?

Inside the laptop, there is a cooling fan that cools down the hot CPU.
But if you use the laptop for too long, then the performance might degrade or due to alien substances, the CPU might fail to operate properly.
Thus, as it fails to cool down hot parts inside the laptop, the temperature might rise as a result.
The environment of using the laptop might affect the laptop as well.
If air circulation is failed through the air vent hole of the CPU cooling fan, the temperature might rise.
If infected viruses or malware is installed to overload the system resource, the heat generation can be more severe.

Causes and symptoms

  • CPU cooling fan speed control has a problem.
  • Because the laptop has been used for too long, the CPU cooling fan does not fulfill its function or there is alien substance inside it.
  • The surrounding where the laptop is used is not very much suitable.
  • Virus or malware is using the system resource.

Try this

Is the CPU cooling fan setting set to low noise mode?

➔ If the cooling mode is set to low noise mode in LG Smart Assistant, then switch it to the recommended mode.

1. After entering [ search LG Smart Assistant] in the task bar search field, and run it.

2. In [ Smart Assistant LG Smart Assistant] > [ Dashboard Dashboard] > [Cooling Mode], switch to [Normal Mode].

➔ If set to Silent mode in LG Control Center, then switch it to off.

1. After entering [ search LG Control Center] in the task bar search field, and run it.

2. In [ LG Control Center LG Control Center], set [System Setting] > [ Silent Mode Silent Mode] to [OFF].

What is a Silent mode?

The function can be used to minimize the noise level by minimizing the use of the CPU cooling fan trough reduction of CPU usage by the laptop.
However, as the CPU cooling fan operates less heavily, the heat discharge function is degraded and long hours of use can lead to excessive heat generation.

What if there is alien substance at the air vent hole?

➔ Check the air vent hole on the bottom, rear, side and so on to check if there is alien substances.

If there is alien substance in the air vent hole or fan installed on the laptop, it can cause malfunctions that finally leads to excessive heat generation.
If there is alien substance such as dust, snack chips, and so on, then remove it before use.
If the air vent hole is clogged, then the temperature will rise and thus the power can be turned off or the program can be stopped or slow down.
Nicely arrange the surroundings to make sure no alien substance can enter it.
When you clean the air vent hole, simply remove alien substances and so on, but do not try to clean it overly thoroughly.

Warning!

It is very much difficult for customers to disassemble and clean the CPU cooling fan on their own. If you use strong winds from air guns and so on to clean it, then you might end up breaking the wing.
If you hear the grinding or rolling sounds, or if you want to clean the inside of the CPU cooling fan, then have it checked by an LG Electronics service technician.

Is the surrounding where the laptop is used suitable?

➔ Place your laptop on a flat and firm ground for use.

If there is an obstructing object or heater within 15cm from the laptop, keep them far away from the laptop.
If you use your laptop on bed or mat placed on floors, then air vent hole for the CPU cooling fan will be clogged, and air circulation will fail, thus the heat generation will be more excessive.
Place it on a flat ground with good air circulation for use.
In addition, if there are many objects near the laptop, air circulation can be interfered with.
Check if there is a heater that directly affects the temperature is near the laptop.

Did you check if malware is installed or it is infected with a virus?

➔ If malware is installed, delete it.

Using the vaccine program such as Windows Defender, V3, Norton, Alyac and etc, perform precise inspection on PC viruses and treat them accordingly.
If malware is installed or the PC is infected with viruses, then the system resource usage will increase, thus the heat generation can get more severe.
In [Delete Program] of [Control Panel], find the malware and remove it.
Use the vaccine program to perform precise inspection to treat viruses as well.

Warning!

If you remove the malware, then booting might fail or data can get damaged.
Make sure to store critical data in separate storage devices and delete the malware.

Wait! Find out more.
If the laptop is turned on, Windows Update will be done automatically.
In this case, if you use a program that requires lots of system resources, then due to increased resource use, the heat generation problem can be more severe momentarily.
