If you do not hear sound after connecting your PC to your LG TV with an
HDMI cable, your computer may be using the wrong audio output device or
the cable might be loose.
To fix this, select your LG TV as the audio output device on your
computer taskbar or unplug and reconnect the HDMI cable.
Why Is There No Sound From the TV?
If there is no sound when you connect your PC to the TV, it is usually caused by incorrect settings or connection issues.
- Volume settings: Your PC or TV volume may be too low, or the mute feature may be turned on.
- Incorrect sound output settings: On your PC, the PC speakers may be selected as the sound output instead of your TV.
- Loose HDMI cable connection: The cable may not be securely connected, or the internal wire may be damaged, preventing it from properly sending the audio signal.
- Sound driver issue: The sound driver, which manages the audio on your PC, may not be installed, or there may be an issue from a recent Windows update.
How to Restore Sound From the TV
Step 1. Check the Volume and Mute Settings
Check the volume on both your TV and PC. If either device is muted or the volume is set to 0, turn off the mute feature and raise the volume.
Step 2. Reconnect or Replace the HDMI Cable
Make sure the HDMI cable is fully inserted into the ports on both the
PC and TV.
If the cable is securely connected but there is still no sound,
disconnect it and reconnect it. If the issue continues, try another
HDMI cable.
Step 3. Select the TV as the Computer Audio Output
- 1. On the right side of your Windows taskbar, click the Speaker icon.
- 2. Then, click the Select a sound output icon next to the volume slider.
- 3. From the list of output devices, choose your LG television or the device connected through HDMI.
Step 4. Allow the TV as an Audio Output Device
If your television does not appear in the output device list, you may need to check its status in your Windows sound settings.

- 2. Go to System, then Sound, and choose All sound devices.
- 3. Under Output devices, select your connected television.
- 4. If the device is disabled, click Allow.
-
5. Return to the Sound menu, select the television under Output,
and adjust the volume to test the sound.
Note that menu names and paths may vary slightly depending on your Windows version.
Step 5. Update the PC Audio Driver
If the previous steps do not work, try updating your audio driver.
-
1. Use Device Manager: Press the Windows logo key
+ X, and then select Device Manager.
Expand Sound, video and game controllers, right-click the audio device, and select Update driver. - 2. Use Windows Update: Go to Settings, then Windows Update, and install any available updates.
-
3. Use the manufacturer’s support website:
Visit the official support website of your computer or motherboard manufacturer to download and install the latest compatible audio driver for your specific model.
Step 6. Still Need Help?
If the issue persists after following the steps above, you can get
further support through the LG Chatbot on our website or by requesting
a technician visit.
Note: A service fee may apply if your product is out of warranty.
Some DVI-to-HDMI cables or adapters only transmit video. If you need
both video and audio, use a standard HDMI connection.
If your PC doesn't have an HDMI port, make sure your adapter supports
audio output..
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Q. Why is there no sound when using a USB-C to HDMI adapter?
- A. Your adapter or hub might not support audio output, or it might not be compatible with your PC. Check the product specifications to confirm it supports audio. If possible, test the connection with a different USB-C to HDMI adapter or cable.
- Q. I changed the audio settings and reinstalled the driver, but there's still no sound. Is the TV faulty?
- A. If you connect a cable box or another device to the TV and sound plays normally through the TV speakers, your TV is working properly. The issue is likely related to your PC, cable, or adapter.
