The LG Smart TV can use a wireless connection to gain access to the Internet for the Smart functions available on the TV. The wireless connection requires that the TV is within a specified distance from the wireless Gateway or Router. Refer to the Users Guide for the Wireless device.

The LG Smart TV can utilize any of two methods for a wireless connection to the Internet:

  1. TV to a Wireless Gateway (combined Router & Modem)
  2. TV to a Wireless Router and a separate Modem

The common service providers will use either DSL (Digital Subscriber Link) via a telephone line, or Cable via a coax cable. There is a 3rd form of Internet connection via Satellite Internet, but these companies employ "Fair Access Policies". They limit the amount of monthly data usage, so this precludes the ability to view movies, use Skype, or play on-line games.

Connecting the TV to a Wireless Gateway (combined Wireless Router and Modem)

To facilitate an Internet connection to the TV, the TV will be connected to the Gateway wirelessly, using the inbuilt WiFi module. The Gateway will be connected to the Internet with either a Cable Internet coax, or a DSL telephone jack. The TV’s Internal IP Address is supplied by the Gateway.

1. Connect the Internet phone cable (DSL) or Coax cable (Cable Co), to the Gateway (DSL/Cable) Internet port.

2. Plug the Gateway power supply into an AC outlet, and the Gateway power cord into the power port on the Gateway.

3. Wait until the Gateway LED’s show that the unit is operational.

4. Power the TV on using the Power button on the rear of the TV, or by using the TV remote control Power button.

Connecting the TV to a Router & Modem

To facilitate an Internet connection to the TV, the TV will be connected via a Wireless Router to the Modem. The Modem will be connected to the Internet with either a Cable coax, or a DSL telephone jack. The TV’s Internal IP Address is supplied by the Router.

1. Connect the Internet cable to the Modem (Cable/DSL) Internet port. (Œ)

2. Connect the Modem to the router Internet port with a CAT5 Ethernet (LAN) cable. ()

3. Plug the Modem power supply into an AC outlet, and the Modem power cord into the power port on the Modem.

4. Plug the router power supply into an AC outlet, and the router power cord into the power port on the router.

5. Wait until the Modem and router LED’s show that these units are operational.

6. Power the TV on using the Power button on the rear of the TV, or by using the TV remote control Power button.

If a Wireless Network connection is available, the Network Connection option will list all Wireless Routers or Gateways within range. You will need to know the name of your Wireless Router or Gateway, if there is more than one listed.

1. Press the Smart button Remote on the remote control and select Settings > NETWORK > Network Connection, then press WHEEL or ENTER.

2. Select Start Connection to initiate the connection process.

3. When the TV has completed the network connection to the Internet, press the Complete button to exit.

Note: The wireless network connection is now established and is available for Smart TV, Software Downloads and other network Dependant functions.
Troubleshooting Wireless Network Problem

Disruptions to the wireless network can occur for a variety of reasons, such as a power outage. To restore the connection and verify the TV is working properly, follow these steps.

1. Check if all cables are connected properly to the network equipment. Check that all the LED’s are operating normally on the network equipment. If these LED Lights are not operating normally, then the home network is not functioning correctly and the TV cannot be connected to the Internet.

2. Press the Smart button Remote on the remote control and select Settings > NETWORK > Network Status, then press the WHEEL. This will cause the Network Status test to run automatically.

3. If a red check mark appears on all four icons, (TV, Gateway, DNS, Internet) then the TV is connected to the Internet.

4. If a red check mark appears on the TV but an X on the Gateway, then proceed to Reset Router/Modem section.

5. If a red check mark appears on the TV and Gateway icons, then the TV is working properly. If a red X appears on the DNS Icon, then proceed to Reset Router/Modem section.

6. If a red check mark appears on the TV, Gateway and DNS icons but a red X on the Internet icon, then proceed to Reset Router/Modem section.

When the TV fails to connect to the Internet, a Router/Gateway/Modem reset will often resolve the loss of Internet connection. To do this, follow the steps below.

1. Unplug the power cord/s to the Router/Gateway/Modem.

2. Wait 5 seconds, then plug the power cord/s back in. Wait until the Gateway LED’s show that the unit is operational.

3. If the Internet connection fails then contact your service provider.
