Rated 3 out of 5 by from Flawed design I bought this product 1 week ago and it cools just fine. However, the design of this thing is flawed. It has a remote, which is great, BUT, the display is on the TOP of the unit and can only be seen if standing directly in front of it. If it wasn't already set up, I would definitely return it. The reviews I saw before buying were good, but I didn't see any mention of this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Used 4 times then it died Purchased this A/C unit because of it's low height. I have replacement windows that won't accommodate most air conditioners. Unit is quiet and cools my bedroom adequately. However, it died after just 4 uses. The unit would try to start and the fan would begin to move very slowly then it would just turn off. Of course this happened on the first 90 degree day. I returned the A/C to the store and exchanged it for another. The same model. I really hope this was an isolated problem and that the new one will last.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great unit quality. Runs cool and quite. Runs cool and quiet as i use it for our bedroom. I now own 3 different LG a\c units. 1 8,000 btu window, 1 6,000 btu window and 1 12,000 floor unit with exhaust out window, with easy window adapter to run hose out window and leave screen in window, great design. all work great and quiet. LG a/c units are great quality for a good price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Window A/C LW6017R, Ser #701TAVYFK471 Excellent design, Light weight, efficient. I like that the air Supply blows upward so my children don't get a draft. Easy to install.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great unit, but beware some installation pitfalls! Window AC units get smaller, lighter, quieter and cheaper every year. I got the LW6017R to cool a small bedroom. I am very happy with the unit, especially how quiet it is and would have given it 5 stars were it not for the facts that instructions and some of the installation hardware caused me a lot of trouble. 1st) It is almost impossible to figure out which is the left or right side curtain from the pictures. 2nd) It doesn't matter. Either way I installed them, the vinyl window sash would not fit inside the top screw hole eyelets so I had to cut off the protruding plastic eyelets with a Dremel tool. 3rd) It is very easy to drop a screw into the unit when fitting the curtains as I found out with the first screw of 8!. It took me an hour to get it out which I finally did with a magnet on a straightened coat hanger. I then covered the vent holes with an album jacket (as in vinyl record album) which prevented other screws from falling in. Customers should be cautioned to cover those holes with anything. Murphy's law caused my errant screw to find it's way to a place it wouldn't budge from by turning the unit over, which I tried many times. 4th) The foam that adheres to the bottom of the window sash is too thin to do any good. In fact, it is so thin that it tears easily and if your skin touches the sticky side, it pulls pieces off the foam that are harder to remove from human skin than superglue. I had to use WD40 and a scrub pad to get it off my finger tips. I've been installing window units most of my life (about 60 years of them). My dad worked for an electric utility so we had AC as long as I can remember and I was his helper at a young age. I've done it all and seen it all. As small and light as this unit is, it was one of the most tedious installs I've done for the reasons mentioned above. Luckily. it only weighs 39 lbs. If this had been one of those old 15000 btu, 200 lb monsters I grew up with I would have been hosed. I highly recommend the product, but caution prospective buyers to note the issues I encountered. If you are prepared for them, you should have no trouble. I would ask LG to reengineer the side curtains. The hardware doesn't work well in some modern windows.

How deep does the inside sill need to be for this to fit? Also, I was a little unclear based on the instructions where the metal brackets are placed on inside sill. Cam some one provide clarification?

Asked by: Dawngwem
We appreciate your interest in this Window Air Conditioning unit. The weight of the front of the air conditioner cabinet is supported in the window track itself. The provided L Bracket is positioned OUTSIDE the window, to provide additional cabinet support. This is shown in the diagram on page 12 of the owner’s manual.

My window is only 19" wide. Will this unit fit in my window?

Asked by: GettingwarminMKE
The LG 6,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner, Model # LW6017R is designed for installation in standard single-hung or double-hung windows with actual opening widths from 21" to 35". The upper and lower window sash must open sufficiently to allow a clear vertical opening of 12" from the bottom of the upper sash to the window stool. The window has a width of 17 5/16" and if you do not use the left and right guide panels that have curtains on them to close the gaps that are left on either side of the window after installation, it will fit into a width of 19" provided your window meets the vertical opening requirement. You will also need to find an alternative way to close the gaps between the window casing and the air conditioner since the left and right guide panels will not fit into a 19" width (hence the minimum width of 21")...^IFV

Your specs say 17&5/16 wide. Actually 21". What do I do? Window only 19" wide

Asked by: AndrewTh
We regret the trouble you have experienced with this air conditioner. Most residential windows are between 24” to 30” in width. If the air conditioner is too wide for your window, you may benefit more from a casement window air conditioner, or from a portable air conditioner.
