What People Are Saying

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works fine It's not that quiet - but energy saver works as it maintains temp - not good for bedroom if you don't like noise. flimsy vent closure- hard to figure out. It cools down room very quickly which is good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good A.C. Bad instructions. A good a.c. for my upstairs on 100+ days. I put in vinyl windows, but the instructions are not very clear at all about how to do install it on vinyl. How far back does the wood strip need to be? What are the L brackets (Type D) supposed to catch on under the ac? The "Type B" screws are worthless- They won't reach the window sill after going into the guide panel (Type G). The adhesive foam/deal strip (Type E) stuck to my fingers. When I removed my fingers, the foam ripped to pieces. That should be fun to clean off in the fall. I think there should be 2 support brackets, not just one (Type EA), one for each side. And the Type B screws weren't long enough for that either. Get rid of the word "Type" in the instructions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product I am very happy with my purchase. The price was excellent and it cools off my large bedroom. I give it a 5 Star rating, however, its a bit on the noisy side. I highly recommend this product..

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Loud - wakes me up at night I bought this for my bedroom to keep air cool during summer nights. However, it is loud, so when it switched on or off in the middle of the night it wakes me up. If it is right around the temperature it is set at it will do that over and over again in a short period of time. So I end up not using it and being hot at night. The AC unit I had before this was not as problematic in this respect. Wish I had had a chance to try it and hear it before buying it. :(

Are you able to upgrade the basic remote to one with a display that shows mode, target temperature and fan speed? Will this AC relay this information to a display type remote.

How can I reattach the outside air vent door handle

Asked by: Kenny1956
We appreciate your interest in this air conditioner and its features. The external vent handle is normally located within the air duct. It is recommended to take the front grille off the air conditioner cabinet. This should provide access to the external vent lever, to be moved into an accessible position before reinstalling the grille.

How does the unit operate in dry mode?  It is cool inside but very humid (about 80 percent relative).  I have it set for dry mode and nothing seems to be happening.  The literature on your site said it would remove moisture in the dry setting.

Asked by: HarryPotter
We appreciate your interest in this air conditioner. The DRY mode is designed to run the compressor to extract moisture from the air, but not to circulate the fan as much, so as to not actively cool the air. Some cooling will be the natural result of lower humidity, but the air conditioner will not be pursuing that goal.

Our other window unit has a solid top on the case. LG has vent slot on top side of case. Rain will fall right into the inside of unit. Is that not a problem? Why are there vent slot on top? Do we need to cover it during rainy days?

Asked by: Helen w of California
We appreciate your interest in this air conditioner. The venting in the top of this cabinet is to provide increased internal air circulation, which will in turn provide greater operational efficiency. Proper installation procedure states to have an awning over the air conditioner cabinet, in order to keep rain out, and to keep the unit out of direct sunlight.

Can this unit be installed sideways if it does not fit window? Older house.

Asked by: Ducko
I apologize, but no; this model air conditioner should never be installed on its side. Doing so will force the oil into the coolant lines, resulting in damage to the machine. If your windows open to the side, then either a CASEMENT Air Conditioner or a PORTABLE Air Conditioner will be needed.

Please explain how the dehumidifier works. What temp should I have it set at to get the most moisture removed without actually cooling my apartment? Also, what is the vent lever for?

Asked by: Skaterma
The DRY (Dehumidification) mode on the ENERGY STAR® LG 8000 BTU Window Air Conditioner, Model # LW8016ER does not provide additional cooling. It is used to remove humidity from your room which make the room feel less sticky and more comfortable. You can set it at the temperature that you are most comfortable with and when the unit reaches that set temperature, the compressor and the circulation fan will turn off. The vent lever can be set to the OPEN position to open the damper and draw room air out when you need fresh air in the room. It must be kept in the CLOSE position in oder to maintain the best cooling conditions...^IFV
