Rated 3 out of 5 by from If I can get the software to load... Can't get it to work. Tried to load the software and a message came up saying that it was for LG products only! Should have looked around at other burners before purchasing it. I have heard good things about LG from friends and reviews but this experience kind of sours me on LG.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice little drive, but always plug in both ports! I have a laptop that doesn't have an optical drive so this is my ticket to watching movies and ripping CD's. It works well, but the ONE thing that needs to be pointed out is that even though the drive may operate with only a single USB port connected, it really needs the power from the second port. It would be even better if the drive throttled back enough to run on just one port when only one was available, but other than this, it's your way back to being able to do all the things you need an optical drive for!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good bang for the buck. Haven't tried burning a disc yet, but so far: picture in playback is good, playback is reasonably quiet, I've had no need for the 2nd USB cable for power-which is nice, and I have had problems selecting features from a menu like sub-titles. Most importantly, one needs to use a 3rd party software to play discs. I called support and was recommended to Leawo Blu-Ray player, which is free. I don't know if the sub-title problem was because of hardware or software.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall good I have had good results burning DVDs with my LG. The main problem I have had is that it will not burn Blu-Ray disc from Adobe Encore. You have to download IMG burn to make it work. It is a free download but it is hard to do because of all the ads on the page. It would be nice if LG and Adobe could work together to resolve this issue. You have to export an ISO file and then import that into IMG to burn your Blu-ray.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from BP50NB40 Slim Blu-ray DVD Writer Have looked all over for sw to run the dvd on my MacBook Pro and nothing to be found. I see all these messages from LG saying call our 800 number. Why don't you just put the sw on the web so we can get it? Because it's perhaps not really supported on a MAC? It will be going back to Best Buy Tuesday!

Hi! What does means TV Connectivity (Function needs to be added) on spec sheet? I need to connect it to a smart TV. How do I switch to TV mode? Thanks in advance.

Asked by: laszlo3d
TV Connectivity is exactly as it sounds for the LG 3D Blu-ray Disc Playback & M-DISC™ Support, Model # BP50NB40. This is a device that is designed to be connected via USB to Desktops or Laptops that support the Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP Operating Systems. TV Connectivity is a function that allows you to enjoy videos, pictures, and music by connecting this product to a compatible A/V device (e.g.DIGITAL TV, DIGITAL PHOTO FRAME, PC) that supports USB connectivity. It defaults to ODD mode when it is powered on, so with the tray open, you will need to press and hold the 'Eject' button for 2 seconds. The LED indicator will turn on, switching to TV mode. To return to ODD mode, you would need to press and hold the 'Eject' button again for 2 seconds with the tray open. When you insert your supported media into the drive, the disc file system will be converted to FAT32 and will be recognized as USB flash memory...^IFV
