Is there a replacement cartridge that meets ANSI 53 standards? If not, why not?

Asked by: RSL757
The LG 6 Month / 500 Gallon Capacity Replacement Refrigerator Water Filter (Part # 5231JA2002A), Model # is tested and certified by NSF International against NSF/ANSI Standard 42 and not standard 53. There are two NSF International/ANSI Standards for “Drinking Water Treatment Units” (not including others for reverse osmosis, ion exchange, and ultra-violet units) Standard 42 is for Aesthetic Effects and Standard 53 is for Health Effects. These standards are similar and most of the basic requirements are the same for both. Water filters with a Standard 42 (aesthetic effects) certification are designed to minimize non-health related contaminants such as chlorine, taste and odor, and particulates. Water filters with a Standard 53 (health effects) certification are meant to reduce health-related contaminants that may be present in public or private drinking water. Filters that meet the Standard 53 requirements are able to minimize exposure to microbiological, chemical or particulate contaminants that might be hazardous to your health. These types of filters are typically best suited for individuals who have well water...^IFV

How easy is it to take out the old filter and install the new filter?

Asked by: hrh145
Installation of a new LG 6 Month / 500 Gallon Capacity Replacement Refrigerator Water Filter (part # 5231JA2002A), Model # LT-500P is an easy procedure. Depending on which refrigerator you have, you will need to first turn off your water supply to your refrigerator, take out the top shelf and remove the lamp cover by pressing the tab under the cover and pulling it out toward the front. To remove the old filter, slowly turn it to the left a quarter turn until the unlocked symbol is lined up with the indicator line in the control box area and pulling it down. After you have taken the new filter out of its' packaging, and removed the protective cap that covers the o-rings, line up the ears so that the new cartridge can be inserted into the filter head. Twist the cartridge a quarter of a turn to the right to lock into place. You should feel it stop and the lock symbol should be aligned with the indicator line. Remember to turn the water supply line back on and replace the lamp cover and the top shelf. You will need to flush 1.5 gallons (flush approximately 3 minutes) of water before use. You should open the refrigerator door a moment later to check for any leaks in the shelf area. The instructions for replacing the water filter were detailed in the owner's manual. If you have misplaced the manual, you can always download one from refrigerator's support page at http://www.lg.com/us/support/manuals...^IFV
