The future is connected – 5G set to impact our lives as early as 2019
Fast, furious and future-ready: LG stands tall in the race to 5G
DUBAI, UAE – December XX, 2018 — With talk of superfast fifth generation (5G) mobile internet set to make its mark, how will it enhance our lives?.
It may feel like only a moment ago when 4G was launched and promised to revolutionise the way we communicate. You may be surprised to find out that it has been commercially available for almost 10 years.
The stats for 5G are impressive. Currently, the fastest 4G speeds available are 45Mbps. 5G is set to boast download speeds up to 20 times faster than now. To put that into perspective, an HD movie that currently takes an hour to download, may, in the future take a matter of minutes.
Consider futuristic tech such as virtual and augmented reality – the results have been mixed. With 5G, there’s potential for live 3D streaming of content. More sophisticated and immersive content, in a flash.
But it’s not just about download speeds. It’s about stronger coverage and greater flexibility. Due to 5G’s use of radio frequency, we could see greater use of AI – driverless cars talking to each other, perhaps even entire smart cities.
If you’re wondering how this might apply to you in an everyday context, think of video calling. The loss of signal, pixelated footage, not to mention your frustration. The intention is that 5G will eradicate all of these issues and provide users with greater connectivity and efficiency as a result.
One company is taking the bull by the horns and seeks to harness a competitive edge against other mobile providers. LG recently announced its partnership with us carrier, Sprint – bringing the first 5G-ready smartphone to the US in the first half of 2019.
Mr. Kevin Cha, President LG Electronics Middle East & Africa said, “LG’s partnership with Sprint shows our desire to be at the forefront of innovation. Yet again, we’re demonstrating our commitment to bringing you the very best of tech – ahead of the game.” Commenting on a regional perspective, he said, “Connectivity is key in the digital age. We have great infrastructure in place and are always looking at new ways to enhance the lives of our consumers. We look forward to sharing news of when 5G will become available in MEA. Our region has always been an early adopter of new technologies and it’s only a matter of time before we become even more integrated.”
