How to Fix Lines or Spots on Your LG OLED TV with Pixel Cleaning

Troubleshooting

If lines or spots appear on your LG OLED TV screen, first check the connections for external devices, like your set-top box or HDMI cables, to rule out a signal issue.
If an external device isn't the cause, you can easily restore picture quality by running Pixel Cleaning (or Pixel Refresher), a built-in feature for your OLED screen.
Pixel Cleaning runs automatically when you turn off the TV. However, if you notice an issue on the screen, you can also run it manually from the settings menu.

Note

Leave the TV plugged in: Pixel Cleaning runs while the TV is turned off.
Check external devices: If your internet connection drops while using a set-top box or streaming service, it can look like lines or spots have appeared on the TV. This isn't a TV issue. Check your set-top box connections or internet connection first.

Why do lines or spots appear, and what is Pixel Cleaning?

1. Static images

OLED TVs are made up of individual, self-lit pixels. This technology delivers bright, vivid picture quality.

However, when a fixed image, such as a broadcaster's logo, stays in one spot for a long time, heat can build up in those pixels. This heat can temporarily cause screen issues like lines or spots.

2. What is Pixel Cleaning?

Pixel Cleaning is a smart, OLED-exclusive picture care feature. It automatically detects and corrects the picture issues that can occur when an OLED TV stays on for a long time.

How to fix lines or spots on your screen

Step 1. Check external device connections or signals

Reconnect the HDMI cable: Unplug the HDMI cable connecting your TV to an external device, such as a set-top box or game console. Then, plug it firmly back into the port.

A bent or loose cable can cause lines on the screen.

Check external devices and internet connections: Turn off the power on the back of your set-top box or external device, and then turn it back on. Also, check your internet connection.

If spots appear only on a specific channel or streaming service, the cause is likely the network or broadcast signal rather than the device itself.

Step 2. Run Pixel Cleaning

On your TV remote, press the [Settings] (gear icon) or [Mute] button three times in a row.

2022 and newer OLED TVs (webOS 22 and later): Press the [Settings] button on the remote, then select [All Settings], [General], [OLED Care], [OLED Panel Care], [Pixel Cleaning].

2021 OLED TVs (webOS 6.0): Press the [Settings] button on the remote, then select [All Settings], [Support], [OLED Care], [OLED Panel Care], [Pixel Cleaning].

2020 OLED TVs (webOS 5.0): Press the [Settings] button on the remote, then select [All Settings], [Picture], [OLED Care], [OLED Screen Saver], [Pixel Refresher].

2019 OLED TVs (webOS 4.5): Press the [Settings] button on the remote, then select [All Settings], [Picture], [Additional Settings], [OLED Panel Settings], [Pixel Refresher].

2018 and older OLED TVs (webOS 4.0 and earlier): Press the [Settings] button on the remote, then select [All Settings], [Picture], [OLED Panel Settings], [Pixel Refresher].
