If Your TV Screen Shows a Double Image or Ghosting

Troubleshooting

An unstable broadcast signal or a connection issue with an external device often causes a double image or ghosting on your TV screen.
Run Screen Self-Diagnosis to determine if the issue is with your TV or the external signal.

What Causes a Double Image or Ghosting on an LG TV Screen?

A weak or unstable video signal often causes a double image, or ghosting on your screen.
If this happens only on a specific channel or connected device, it is likely a broadcast signal issue or a temporary device error, rather than a problem with your TV.

How to Fix a Double Image or Ghosting

Step 1. Run Screen Self-Diagnosis

Run Screen Self-Diagnosis to check your TV's display. Choose the menu path for your TV's model year:

  • For models released in 2021 or later (including QNED, NanoCell, UHD, and OLED):
Press Settings on your remote, then select All Settings, Support, and Screen Self-Diagnosis. On some OLED TVs, select All Settings, General, OLED Care, Device Self-Care, and Screen Self-Diagnosis.
  • For models released in 2020 or earlier:
Press Settings on your remote, then select All Settings, Support, Additional Settings, and Picture Test. On some earlier models, select All Settings, Picture, and Picture Test.

Step 2. Check the Test Image

Check if the test image appears clear.

  • If the image is clear: Your TV is operating normally.
Restart your connected device, such as a set-top box or game console.
Disconnect the HDMI cable and plug it firmly back in.
  • If the image is doubled: If the test image shows the same issue as the broadcast screen, contact LG Customer Support.

Step 3. Check the Signal on the Affected Channel

If you connect an antenna or cable directly to your TV, the signal may be weak on a specific channel.

  • If other channels display a clear picture, the broadcast signal for the affected channel is likely unstable.
  • Press Settings on your remote, then select All Settings, Channels, Channel Tuning, and Manual Tuning.
Check if the signal strength and quality for the affected channel are adequate.

Step 4. Still Need Help?

If the issue continues after you follow the steps above, use the LG Chatbot on the LG website or request a technician visit for further assistance.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. Why Does an Image From a Previous Program Remain on My OLED TV Screen?
A. Displaying a static image, such as a channel logo, for an extended period can leave a faint image on your screen.
Run Pixel Cleaning or Pixel Refresher from your TV settings to clear the retained image.
