If your LG Magic Remote pointer doesn't appear on the screen, it is usually due to low batteries, a disconnected remote, or the Audio Guidance feature being turned on. First, try replacing the batteries with new ones.
If the pointer still doesn't appear, make sure Audio Guidance (Accessibility) is turned off in your TV settings, and then pair the remote with your TV again.
If these steps don't work, you can reset your TV as a last resort, but please note that this will erase all your custom settings and saved data.
Why Does the Magic Remote Pointer Disappear?
- Low batteries or unsupported remote
- Audio Guidance (Accessibility) is turned on
- Disconnected remote or wireless interference
- Temporary system glitch
- Hardware issue
How to Restore the Magic Remote Pointer
Step 1. Check the Remote and Replace the Batteries
Check if any buttons on the remote work. If none of the buttons work, replace the batteries with new ones.
(Note: If you are using a standard remote, the pointer won't appear because standard remotes do not support this feature.)
Step 2. Turn off Audio Guidance
Press the Settings (gear icon) or Mute button on your remote three times in a row.
- If the remote buttons work but the pointer is missing, the Audio Guidance feature might be turned on.
- You will need to turn it off in your TV settings based on your webOS version.
- For 2021 and later models (webOS 6.0 or later): Press the Settings button on the remote, go to All Settings, select General, choose Accessibility, and turn off Audio Guidance.
- For 2020 and earlier models (webOS 5.0 or earlier): Press the Settings button on the remote, go to All Settings, select Accessibility, and turn off Audio Guidance.
Step 3. Reset and Pair the Magic Remote
- If the power and volume buttons work but the pointer is missing, your remote might be disconnected. To prevent wireless interference, make sure your Wi-Fi router is at least 8 inches (20 cm) away from the TV.
- Press and hold the Back and Home buttons at the same time for at least five seconds.
- When the red light on the Power button blinks three times, the remote is unpaired.
- Point the remote at the TV and press the Wheel (OK) button.
- A message will appear on the screen confirming the remote is paired, and the pointer will reappear.
Step 4. Reset the TV
- If the pointer still doesn't appear and only some buttons work, you may need to reset your TV as a final step.
- Resetting your TV will erase all data, including app logins, Wi-Fi passwords, and channel settings, restoring it to factory defaults. If you are unsure about setting up your TV again, contact LG Support for assistance before proceeding.
- For 2021 and Later Models (webOS 6.0 or Later): Press the Settings button on the remote, go to All Settings, select General, choose System, and select Reset to Initial Settings.
- For 2020 Models (webOS 5.0): Press the Settings button on the remote, go to All Settings, select Support, and choose Reset to Initial Settings.
- For 2019 and Earlier Models (webOS 4.5 or Earlier): Press the Settings button on the remote, go to All Settings, select General, and choose Reset to Initial Settings.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q. What Should I Do If None of the Remote Buttons Work?
-
A. This is likely not a pointer setting issue. The batteries may be completely depleted, or there may be a hardware issue with the remote or TV.
Replace the batteries with new ones. If the remote still doesn't work, contact LG Support for further assistance.
- Q. What Should I Do If the Pointer Does Not Match Where I Point the Remote?
-
A. If the pointer is misaligned, move it all the way to the left or right edge of the screen.
When the pointer reaches the edge, it automatically realigns with the remote at the center of the screen.
- Q. I Am Using a Standard Remote. Is It Broken If the Pointer Does Not Appear?
- A. No. The on-screen pointer is a specialized feature available only on the Magic Remote. Standard remotes do not support this feature.
This guide is based on standard models. The settings menu may vary by model.
