[LG Kimchi Refrigerator] Troubleshooting Refrigerator Door Not Closing

Troubleshooting

Causes and Symptoms

  • The refrigerator door won't close properly because there's too much food inside.
  • The refrigerator door won't close properly because the shelves aren't assembled correctly.

Let's find out more.

If the door is left open, cold air escapes, and the internal temperature of the refrigerator rises.
The refrigerator then runs continuously to lower the increased temperature back to the set temperature.
Therefore, if the door is left open for a certain period, a door alarm will sound.

※ If the door alarm continues to sound even though the door is properly closed, this indicates a product malfunction that cannot be resolved with simple troubleshooting. Please contact LG Customer Service.

Try this.

Is the refrigerator door not closing because there's too much food inside?

➔ Remove some food so the door closes properly.

If the refrigerator is too full, the door may not close properly.
Also, if the door bins are overpacked, the weight of the food can cause the door to sag and become loose.

Is the refrigerator door not closing because the shelves aren't assembled correctly?

➔ Remove and reinsert the drawers or shelves.

If the drawers or shelves are not correctly assembled after cleaning, the refrigerator door may not close properly.

Check the drawer basket assembly.
Open the lower door. If the basket inside the drawer is not flush, gently press it down to level it.

Are items like refrigerator covers or plastic bags getting caught when you open or close the door?

➔ Remove any obstructions that prevent the refrigerator door from closing properly.

If there is a cover on top of the refrigerator or plastic bags stored in the door bins, they may get caught in the door. Please remove them.

Is the door not sealing properly because of invisible debris on the gasket?

➔ Clean the gasket with detergent.

If food or other debris has hardened on the gasket, the stickiness can reduce the seal and prevent the door from closing properly.
Wipe the gasket with a hot, damp towel, then clean it with a toothbrush or sponge and detergent.

Is the door not sealing properly because the gasket is loose or detached?

➔ Press the gasket firmly into place.

If part of the gasket is loose or detached, press it into the groove on the refrigerator door.

Wait! Find out more.
How your refrigerator is installed can affect the gasket seal.
When leveling the refrigerator, tilt it slightly backward. This positioning improves the seal between the gasket and the door.
