How to Connect the Water Supply Line to Your LG Refrigerator

To use the automatic ice maker and water dispenser, you must connect your LG refrigerator to your home’s cold water supply.
For a safe installation, first unplug your refrigerator and connect a compatible water supply line.
Once connected, check all connections for leaks, and make sure to flush the water line before using the water or ice.

Before You Begin
  • Unplug your refrigerator before connecting or handling the water supply line.
  • After installation, check the connections at your refrigerator and water shutoff valve for leaks to prevent water damage.
  • If you use copper tubing, install it indoors where the temperature stays above 0°C (32°F) to prevent freezing and bursting.
  • Connect the automatic ice maker to a cold water supply with a pressure between 20 and 120 psi.
  • You may need a separate adapter depending on your home’s plumbing.
  • If you need to use your refrigerator before connecting the water line, turn off the automatic ice maker.

Why Does the Refrigerator Need a Water Supply Line?

The automatic ice maker and water dispenser on your LG refrigerator use water directly from your home’s plumbing.
To use these features, connect the refrigerator to a cold water supply with a water supply line.
If the water line is not connected, your refrigerator cannot dispense water or make ice.

How to Connect the Refrigerator Water Supply Line

Step 1. Connect the Water Supply Line to the Shutoff Valve

Connect a standard 1/4-inch water supply line to your home's cold water shutoff valve.
If the line does not fit the valve, use a compatible adapter.

Step 2. Flush the Water Supply Line

Place the end of the water supply line in a large bowl or container.
Open the water shutoff valve.
Let the water flow through the line until it runs clear to remove dust and debris.
Close the water shutoff valve.
This removes dust and debris from inside the line before you connect it to the refrigerator.

Step 3. Unplug the Refrigerator

Unplug your refrigerator from the wall outlet before you continue.

Step 4. Locate the Water Line Connection

Find the water inlet connection near the lower back of the refrigerator.
The location may vary by model.

Step 5. Connect the Water Supply Line to Your Refrigerator

Remove the plastic protective cap from the refrigerator water valve.
Slide the provided compression nut and ferrule onto the water supply line.
Insert the end of the water supply line into the refrigerator connection as far as it will go.
Tighten the compression nut until the connection is secure.

Step 6. Open the Water Valve and Check for Leaks

Open the water shutoff valve.
Check the connection at the refrigerator for leaks.
Check the connection at the water shutoff valve for leaks.
If a connection leaks, close the water shutoff valve and tighten the compression nut until the connection is secure.

Step 7. Plug In the Refrigerator

After confirming that no water is leaking, plug the refrigerator into the wall outlet.

Step 8. Flush the Refrigerator Water System

Dispense and discard at least 7.5 L (2 gal) of water to flush the water lines inside your refrigerator.

Q. Why Isn’t the Ice Maker Producing Ice Immediately After Installation?
A. After installation, your refrigerator needs time to cool and supply water to the ice maker.
It may take up to 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice.
Q. Can I Drink the Water Immediately After Installation?
A. Do not drink the first water dispensed after installation.
Dispense and discard at least 7.5 L (2 gal) of water to flush dust and debris from the new water supply line and your refrigerator's internal lines.
Q. What Happens if the Water Pressure Is Too Low?
A. If your water pressure is below the recommended range of 20 to 120 psi, your ice cubes may be smaller.
The water dispenser may also operate more slowly than usual
