[LG Washing Machine] Water Not Draining (OE Error)

Troubleshooting

Is the "OE" (Water Outlet Error) code displayed and the water not draining from the washing machine drum? Is the water draining very slowly?

Causes and Symptoms

  • The drain pump filter is clogged.
  • The drain hose is kinked or compressed.
  • The drain hose is frozen.

Try this.

A clogged drain pump filter may prevent draining.
Have you tried cleaning the drain pump filter?

➔ Open the service cover at the bottom of the washing machine, remove the drain pump filter, and clean it.

Cleaning the drain pump filter
1. Open the service cover at the bottom of the washing machine.
Place a container underneath to catch any residual water.
2. Remove the residual water drain hose as shown and pull out the cap to drain the water inside the washing machine.
The water may be hot, so exercise caution.
3. Twist the pump cap to remove the drain pump filter and clean it with a toothbrush.
4. After cleaning, reassemble the hose cap and pump cap, and close the service cover.

A kinked or compressed drain hose may prevent draining.
Have you checked the drain hose?

➔ Straighten the drain hose to allow water to flow freely.

If the washing machine is installed too close to the rear wall, the drain hose may become kinked or compressed.
Maintain a clearance of at least 4 inches (10 cm) between the back of the washing machine and the wall, and at least 1 inch (2 cm) on each side. Ensure the washing machine is placed on a firm, level surface and the drain hose is positioned to drain freely.

Incorrect example: Kinked drain hose. Correct example: Drain hose installed correctly with 4 inches (10 cm) clearance between the washing machine and the wall.
Checking the cause of the drainage issue
Check whether the drainage issue is with the washing machine or due to a clogged drain pipe using the following self-test.
1. Disconnect the drain hose from the drain pipe, press the [Power] button, and run the Spin cycle.
2. If the water drains properly from the drain hose during the test, the drain pipe may be clogged. Clean the drain pipe.

Is the washing machine frozen due to cold weather?

➔ Thaw the drain hose and then try using the washing machine.

If the washing machine's drain hose is frozen, water will not drain from the drum.
Pour sufficient warm water (122-140°F / 50-60°C) into the drum, close the door, and wait 1-2 hours for the drain pump to thaw.
Then, open the service cover or drawer at the bottom of the washing machine, open the residual water drain hose cap, and drain the water.

If the issue persists, contact LG Customer Service to request a service visit.
