How to Fix an LG Front Load Washer That Is Not Draining (OE Error Code)

Troubleshooting

To fix most draining issues, clean the drain pump filter at the bottom of the washer, or check if the drain hose is kinked, frozen, or installed too high.

Warning

  • The water remaining in the washer may be hot and can cause burns. Before cleaning the drain pump filter, place a shallow pan or container under the residual water drain hose to prevent spills.

Why Is Your Washer Not Draining?

1. The Drain Pump Filter Is Clogged

Lint or debris may have built up in the drain pump filter, preventing water from draining.

2. The Drain Hose Is Kinked, Pinched, or Frozen

Washer vibrations can cause the drain hose to kink or get pinched. Water also won't drain properly if the hose is installed too high. In cold weather, water inside the drain pump or hose can freeze, blocking the flow.

3. Your Home's Drain Is Clogged

The standpipe or floor drain connected to the washer may be clogged. If so, the issue is with your home's plumbing, not the washer itself.

How to Fix a Washer That Is Not Draining

Case 1. Clean the Drain Pump Filter

Open the service cover at the bottom of the washer. Use the residual water drain hose to drain any remaining water.
Then, turn the pump filter cap, remove the drain pump filter, and clean it thoroughly with a toothbrush.

Case 2. Check the Drain Hose

Straighten the drain hose so that it is not kinked or pinched. Place the hose on a level, stable surface, and make sure it is no higher than 20 inches (50 cm) from the floor so water can drain properly.
(If the washer is frozen) Pour warm water (122–140°F / 50–60°C) into the drum.
Close the door and wait 1 to 2 hours to thaw the drain pump. Then, drain any remaining water.

Case 3. Check Your Home's Drain

Remove the drain hose from your home's drain. Press Power, and then run a Spin-only cycle.
If water drains normally from the hose, the washer is operating properly. You may need to unclog your home's drain.

Case 4. Still Need Help?

If the issue persists after following the steps above, you can get further support via LG AI Chat or by scheduling a service.

A. Make sure the drain hose lies flat on the floor. This prevents washer vibrations from kinking the hose.
Q. Can I pour boiling water into a frozen washer to thaw it quickly?
A. No. Boiling water can deform or damage washer components.
