If you can't hear sound from your LG Sound Bar or external speaker, the issue is usually caused by an incorrect input setting on the Sound Bar, the TV's sound output settings, or a cable connection issue.
Make sure the Sound Bar's input mode matches your current connection (such as HDMI ARC or Optical), and turn the volume up to 10 or higher.
If you're using a non-LG TV, you can usually fix this by opening the TV's settings menu and setting the sound output to the port your Sound Bar is connected to.
Why is there no sound from your Sound Bar?
- Incorrect input mode
- TV sound output not set to the Sound Bar
- Loose cable or signal disruption
How to fix Sound Bar connection issues
Step 1. Check the volume on your Sound Bar and TV
- Make sure your Sound Bar and TV are both turned on.
- Use the TV and Sound Bar remotes to turn the volume up to 10 or higher.
Step 2. Set the correct input mode on the Sound Bar
- Press the [F (Function)] or [Input] button on the Sound Bar remote or the unit itself.
- Change the mode shown on the display to match how your Sound Bar is connected to the TV.
- HDMI cable: Set to HDMI ARC or e-ARC.
- Optical cable: Set to OPT or Optical.
- Wireless connection: Set to BT or Bluetooth.
Step 3. Change the TV's sound output to the external speaker
- Check your TV's settings to make sure the sound output is set correctly.
- See the paths below for LG TVs by model year. (For non-LG TVs, refer to the your TV's user manual.)
- LG TVs: [Settings] on the remote, [All Settings], [Sound], [Sound Out]
Step 4. Reconnect the cables and restart the devices
- Turn off both the TV and the Sound Bar.
- Unplug the HDMI or Optical cable, wait 3 seconds, then plug it back in.
- (Note: The HDMI cable must be connected to the port labeled [HDMI eARC/ARC] on the back of the TV.)
- Turn both devices back on and check if the sound is working properly.
Step 5. Test the connection with another device
- If your Sound Bar isn't connecting properly to your TV, set-top box, or other source, try connecting it to a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth.
- If the sound plays normally from your phone, the issue is most likely with your TV settings or cable, not the Sound Bar itself.
Step 6. Still need help?
If the issue persists after following the steps above, you can get further support through LG Chatbot on our website or by requesting a technician visit.
FAQ
- Q. I connected my Sound Bar to a non-LG TV and there's no sound. Is it not compatible?
-
A. Even with a non-LG TV, your Sound Bar will work normally as long as you go into the TV's settings menu and change the [Sound Out] from the built-in speaker to [External Speaker (Optical/HDMI)].
Refer to your TV's manual for the exact menu location.
- Q. What's the difference between HDMI ARC and a regular HDMI port?
- A. An HDMI ARC port can send audio from the TV to an external device. A regular HDMI port is for video input only, so you may not hear any sound through it.
- Q. What is HDMI-CEC (SIMPLINK)?
-
A. Check your product's user manual to see if this feature is supported.
On LG TVs, press [Settings] on the remote,[All Settings], [General], [External Devices], [HDMI Settings], set [SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC)] to [On].
