How to Fix an LG Laptop Touchpad That Isn't Working
Step 1. Turn On the Touchpad Using a Keyboard Shortcut
- If your touchpad is turned off, you can easily turn it back on using a keyboard shortcut.
- 2025 and newer LG gram models: Press and hold the Fn key, then press F4. Look for the Touchpad On indicator on your screen.
- 2024 and older LG gram models: Press and hold the Fn key, then press F5 to turn the touchpad back on.
- Other models: Press and hold the Fn key, then press the function key (F1–F12) that has a touchpad icon.
Step 2. If the Fn Key Doesn't Work, Enable HotKeyManager in Startup Apps
- If your keyboard shortcuts aren't responding, the app that controls them might be disabled.
- Right-click the Start button on the Windows taskbar, then select Task Manager.
- In the Task Manager window, click the Startup apps icon (or the Startup tab).
- Find HotKeyManager in the list.
- Right-click HotKeyManager and select Enable if it is currently disabled.
- Restart your laptop and try the keyboard shortcut again.
Step 3. Reinstall the Touchpad Driver
- If a software glitch has corrupted your touchpad driver, you can easily reinstall it using the LG Update app.
- Open the LG Update app on your laptop (such as LG Update & Renew, LG Update & Recovery, or LG Update Center).
- If you don't have the app, download the LG Update Installer from the Microsoft Store or the LG Support website first.
- Select the touchpad driver, or choose to install all available updates.
- Click Install or Update.
- Restart your laptop once the installation is complete.
Step 4. Change the Touchpad Settings in Windows
- You can customize your Windows settings to keep the touchpad on or turn it off automatically when a mouse is connected.
- Type Touchpad settings in the taskbar search box and select the matching result.
- Toggle the Touchpad switch to On.
- Click the Touchpad section to expand the menu.
- Check the box next to Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected if you want to use both devices at the same time.
