The browser startup page is the website that opens automatically when you launch a web browser, such as Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.
This setting lets you go straight to websites you visit often, such as a search engine or a work-related page, without having to type a URL each time.
Why set a startup page?
- You want to open a specific website — like Google or your company intranet — automatically every time you launch your browser.
- An unwanted page, such as MSN or Bing, appears as the default after purchasing a new PC or updating your browser.
- Your startup page has been changed to an unfamiliar or ad-heavy site, possibly due to malware or an unwanted program.
- Your previous browsing session keeps restoring, and you'd prefer to start fresh each time.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Q. I changed my startup page, but a strange website keeps appearing. What should I do?
-
A. This may be caused by malware or another program that is changing your browser settings.
Uninstall any unnecessary toolbars or search helper programs from the list of installed programs, and run a full virus or malware scan using your security software.
- Q. The settings menu is grayed out, or I see a message that says "Managed by your organization." What does this mean?
-
A. If you are using a shared PC at work or school, your IT administrator may have restricted browser settings for security policy reasons.
In this case, you will not be able to change the startup page on your own. Contact your IT department or system administrator for assistance.
