Why do I not see a 3D effect? Why do I see double images?

There are several reasons why you may not see a 3D effect, or why the 3D effect may not be optimal:

  1. Ensure that you have the correct 3D glasses on (bundled with monitor), and are sitting in the ideal position
    (see Getting Started).
  2. 2.Adjust the tilt of the display while looking at a 3D image. You should notice the image becomes clearer at a certain angle, with any double images reduced or eliminated.
  3. 3.Ensure that the monitor resolution is set to 1920x1080.
  4. 4.When watching a 3Di DVD, press "D" to switch between "3Di (Left)" and "3Di (Right)".
  5. 5.Ensure that you are not in 2D mode. Press "3" in TriDef 3D Media Player or "Alt+Shift+-" in LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D to switch between 2D and 3D mode.
  6. 6.Ensure the 3D Scene Depth is greater than 0.
  7. 7.It is believed that approximately 10% of the population are "stereo blind" and cannot perceive stereoscopic 3D depth effects.
What is a 3Di DVD?
A number of 3D DVD titles containing stereoscopic video are available commercially. Such disks may be described as High-Quality Field Sequential (HQFS), field sequential 3D or 3D interlaced (3Di). A list of known titles is available on this website:

TriDef 3D Media Player can play these DVDs but due to a lack of standards you must press "D" to set the DVD Input Type to one of the following:

- 2D
- 3Di (Left)
- 3Di (Right)
What resolution should my monitor be set to for 3D?
The monitor resolution must be set to 1920x1080 for optimal 3D viewing.
Are Blu-ray or HD DVDs supported?
No, TriDef 3D Media Player only supports standard definition DVDs.
Can I watch streaming videos directly from the internet using TriDef 3D Media Player?
TriDef 3D Media Player does not support video streaming. Instead, please download the video if it is a supported type, right click the file and select "Play with TriDef 3D Media Player".
Why do some videos not play smoothly in 3D?
3D video playback requires more processing power than an equivalent 2D video. High definition video and complex codecs may be difficult to process smoothly. For 2D videos, try changing the 2D → 3D mode using CTRL+3, or try an alternative video codec.
How do I change the DVD region?
DVD region codes are used to restrict playback of certain discs to a particular geographical region.

Your DVD-ROM drive must be set to the appropriate region in order to play the DVD. In Windows Vista, the DVD-ROM drive's DVD region can be changed as follows:

  1. Click Start → Control Panel → Device Manager.
  2. Double-click "DVD/CD-ROM drives", then right-click the appropriate DVD drive and click Properties.
  3. Select the DVD Region tab, make the desired changes and click OK.

Note: You must have Administrator privileges in order to perform this change.
What is LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D?
LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D is a game driver that enables popular PC games to be played in stereoscopic 3D. Its features include:

- Support for a wide range of DirectX 9/10/11 PC games.
- High performance "Virtual" 3D rendering mode for faster performance.
- Unique "Auto Focus" technology to improve 3D rendering.
- Game Profiles that can be customized and shared online.
How does LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D work?
PC games which use Microsoft's DirectX graphics system already contain all the information needed to produce high quality 3D images. The LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D game driver provides a communication interface between the game and the DirectX graphics engine. The game itself does not need to include support for 3D. When the game draws graphics using DirectX, LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D translates this into a 3D format suitable for the display.
What is a TriDef Game Profile?
Game profiles are used to configure LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D's game driver to work optimally with a specific game. If there is no pre-defined profile for your game simply select the "Generic (DDD)" profile. A number of DDD certified profiles come pre-packaged with LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D, which include the string "(DDD)" in the profile name. When adding a new game, please check to see if a specific profile already exists for this game.
How do I create a new Game Profile?
To create a new Game Profile for a game that is not already listed, add the game to LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D and select the "Generic (DDD)" profile as a starting point. Launch the game from within LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D by double clicking the game's icon. When the game is running press numpad 0 to open the OSD and adjust settings as necessary. In particular, if the rendering is corrupted try toggling the "Row-Major Matrix" option in the OSD/Options/3D Object Detection menu. If the scene is not in 3D, try changing the mode in the 3D Object Detection menu or go to the Matrix Names and tick all the names containing "Proj". Select "Save Game Profile" in the Options menu. A message will be displayed to tell you where the new game profile is located. This new Game Profile can be emailed to your friends or uploaded to the online forum.

What is Auto Focus and how does it work?

Auto Focus is a proprietary technology that is unique to LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D. It dynamically optimises the 3D render based on the position of graphic objects in the game environment. To produce 3D effects the position of each object in the game is mapped into the stereoscopic volume so it appears to either float in front of the screen or behind the screen.

Games can simulate radically different environments from wide open landscapes to cramped dungeons. Traditionally 3D game drivers have used a fixed mapping across such different environments. Auto focus, by comparison, analyses each frame rendered by the game and adjusts the 3D according to the type of environment encountered.

Alternatively, if you are an advanced user and want manual control over the focus parameters, then turn Custom Focus on. This allows you to set the Near Plane and Far Plane manually.

What is the benefit of using Virtual 3D mode?

LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D has two 3D rendering modes. The standard 3D mode operates in the traditional manner by rendering two views from within the game environment. This approach produces high quality 3D but performance can be reduced as it is necessary to render the DirectX scene twice, once for the left eye and once for the right eye.

Virtual 3D is a method of improving performance by using information from the Z-buffer in the DirectX graphics pipeline. The Z-buffer measures the distance to objects in the scene. This information can be used to synthesise virtual stereoscopic 3D views. As it is only necessary to render the DirectX scene once Virtual 3D runs significantly faster than the traditional stereo 3D mode. Frame rates can be increased by as much 50%. The trade-off for this performance boost is that quality of the 3D can be lower. In particular, Virtual 3D mode cannot see behind objects which can lead to some distortions around edges.

How do I adjust the 3D settings for a specific game?
To access the 3D controls select "3D" from the OSD. There are two main parameters that change the 3D effect. The "Scene Depth" setting controls the overall amount of 3D or 3D strength in the game. The "Percent in Front" setting controls the 3D positioning. The greater the Percentage in Front value the more objects appear to float in front of the screen.
How do I switch back to 2D?

To switch back to 2D while playing the game in 3D you can use the "3D On/Off" hotkey. By default this is mapped to "Alt+Shift+-". Alternatively, you can open the LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D OSD, navigate to the "3D" menu and turn 3D off.

The LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D game driver is only loaded when the game is launched from an icon in the LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D application interface. To launch the game in 2D without using the LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D game driver simply run the game from its original shortcut in the Start Menu or Desktop.

How do I take a 3D screenshot?

Press the "3D Screenshot" hotkey whilst playing the game. By default the hotkey is set to the "PrtScn SysRq" key. Alternatively, open the LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D OSD and select "3D Screenshot from the menu.

3D Screenshots are stored in the users default "Pictures" directory. After successfully taking a 3D Screenshot a message will appear near the bottom left hand corner of the display showing the location of the screenshot. Each 3D Screenshots is stored in several formats including anaglyph, SideBySide and TriDefPhoto.

The gun sight in my game isn't accurate in 3D. How do I fix this?

2D gun sights can be inaccurate when targeting objects in a stereoscopic 3D game. LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D provides an optional laser sight for improved targeting in first person shooters. If the laser sight is not already enabled in your Game Profile then open the OSD and navigate to the "Laser Sight" menu. From here you can turn the laser sight on and off as well as customise its appearance.

Note: in more advanced game profiles the game's original gun sight can also be removed.

Why does my game behave strangely when I press a LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D hotkey?
Some hotkeys may conflict with a game's controls. If this occurs, choose a different hotkey on the Game Properties dialog.
My game is running too slowly in 3D, what can I do?
Playing a game in 3D requires more processing power than playing in 2D. If a game does not run smoothly in 2D then it is unlikely that you will get an acceptable result in 3D.

There are two main options for improving 3D performance:

  1. Change the graphics settings in the game. Typically games will enable you to change the resolution of the game as well as enable/disable advanced graphics settings like anti-aliasing. To improve performance, reduce the resolution and turn off or reduce the quality of various graphics settings in the game.
  2. Adjust LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D's performance settings: LG 3D Game - TriDef 3D has a performance menu in the OSD. The Virtual 3D mode can provide a significant speed increase. Alternatively, reduce the quality level of the current renderer in the performance menu.

  3. A more detailed guide to performance tuning is available in our online forum.
When I launch TriDef 3D, I receive the following error:
"Please connect a supported LG 3D Monitor/Monitor TV and restart Windows". How do I fix this?
This software can only be used when a supported LG 3D Monitor/MonitorTV is plugged in to your PC. If the monitor is not plugged in, then plug it in now and restart your PC. You should then be able to use the software correctly without receiving this licensing error.

If you still receive this error with a valid monitor connected, then it is possible that Windows did not correctly recognize your monitor. This is most likely to occur when using a laptop. Please follow these steps to fix the problem:

  1. Open Device Manager by clicking Start → Control Panel → Hardware and Sound → Device Manager.
  2. Double-click Monitors and identify your monitor from the list.
  3. Right-click on the monitor and select Uninstall.
  4. Select the Action menu and choose Scan for hardware changes. The monitor should then be re-added to the list.
  5. You should now be able to run TriDef 3D successfully.
How do I connect my notebook to the 3D monitor?
Connect the monitor to your notebook using the appropriate cable, then ensure that the monitor is used instead of the notebook screen. You can do this on a Windows 7 notebook by pressing Windows Key + P and selecting "Projector only" mode. On other notebooks press the appropriate function key to set the External Display/Projector mode.
How can I compare the performance of graphics cards?
A list of known graphics cards is ordered by performance on this website:
Why do some hotkeys not work correctly when I use the right Ctrl key?
On some keyboard layouts the right Ctrl key does not perform the same function as the left Ctrl key. If you encounter this issue, then please use the left Ctrl key instead.
How do I play an MKV (Matroska) file using TriDef 3D Media Player?
In order to play an MKV file you must first install the appropriate DirectShow codecs[1]. Please see the Additional Codecs section for more information.

[1] A codec is software that is used to compress or decompress a media file. To play a media file created using a particular codec, you need to download and install the necessary codec.
After the software installation, an Error Box pops up stated as below.
"Restart your computer after connecting with an applicable LG 3D Monitor/Monitor TV."
How can I to fix this problem?

An Error Box often appears when it is connected with an non-applicable monitor besides the LG 3D Monitor/Monitor TV.

Please uninstall the software and reinstall it after connecting the LG 3D Monitor/Monitor TV with your computer.

The mouse does not work properly when installing the software. Why does this happen?

This occurs due to the high- capacity data of the installation program and the sample Demo movie files that are included.

The problem may differ according to the specification of the PC you are using.

For its optimal performance, download the latest version of the program on the Installation Menu.
