Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little unit so far. I bought this unit to cool the back of our house, about 250 square feet. I like the energy saver feature very much. The unit tests the temperature and if it needs to come on to cool the area, it does. It takes a few days to get used to it but is no different than a large outside unit cycling off and on. We have an older unit in the front of the house and next year I will replace it with another LG but for a larger area.

As a follow-up to Min987’s question- if one has small fingers & gets the unit into a smaller, eg 21”, opening, are the side guides necessary or can an alternative be used to close the gaps & keep the outside air out? If not, what fit 21” & is energy star?

Asked by: Hot and Moist in NYC
The minimum window opening of 22" for the ENERGY STAR® LG 8,000 BTU 115-Volt Window Air Conditioner with Remote, Model # LW8016ER is given for two reasons. The first being for ease of installation and the second being that that is the smallest opening that the left and right frame guides with the curtains can fit into on either side of the air conditioner after installation. If you have an alternative method of sealing the gaps after installation, you can use it at your discretion...^IFV

If unit is 19 9/16" why does opening need to be 22" to install as stated in another Q&A? Thank you.

Asked by: Min987
When the ENERGY STAR® LG 8000 BTU Window Air Conditioner, Model # LW8016ER is being installed, you will need to hold it to get it in place. The unit weighs 58 lbs so you need to make sure that you have a firm grip on it to prevent it from falling out of the window while you install it. The difference between 19 9/16" (i.e the width of the unit) and a window that is 22" is 2 7/16" which means that you have an opening of 1 7/32" on either side of the air conditioner that you can get your hands through to securely hold 58 lbs. Your hands would need to be very small to fit into a smaller opening than that. Then after you have it placed in the window and you have lowered the upper sash to help hold it securely in place while you finish the installation, you will need to close the gaps on either side of the window so that the hot air from outside does not enter the room. A left and right frame guide are supplied with the air conditioner, each of which has a curtain on it that you use to close the openings. The frame guides will not fit into a smaller opening, hence the minimum window opening of 22"...^IFV

Do you have to have this air conditioner in the energy saver mode to RUN?  Also what is the lowest temperature you can set the air conditioner to be  60?

Asked by: BrodieCooper
Hi BrodieCooper. The Energy Saver mode on this ENERGY STAR® LG 8,000 BTU 115-Volt Window Air Conditioner with Remote, Model # LW8016ER is a selectable mode and you do not need to have the air conditioner set on that mode for it to run. The other modes are Cool and Fan. In Energy Saver mode, the unit is designed to run until the set temperature is reached at which point, the compressor and the fan will stop. Approximately every three minutes, the fan will turn on and check the room temperature if cooling is needed. IN Fan mode, the compressor runs and cools the room. You can adjust circulation fan speed. In Fan mode, the fan circulates but the compressor does not run. The thermostat monitors the room temperature to maintain the desired temperature and it can be set between 60˚F ~86˚F (16˚C ~ 30˚C)...^IFV

How do you set the 24 hr timer to turn on at designated time, and shut off at a specific time?

Asked by: Meaghan122
Pressing the Timer button on the remote control when the unit is off will allow the option to select between 1 hour and 24 hours. This is the amount of time that will pass before the unit turns on.
