Is there a driver or app that I can install in my Google chromebook so the GP55EX70 will work?

Asked by: fjguy77
Chromebooks include only a small amount of internal storage. However, they support external storage devices like USB flash drives, external hard drives, and microSD cards. You may be able to use the LG Ultra Slim Portable DVD Writer with M-DISC™ Support, Model # GP55EX70 with a Chromebook but there are some major limitations. Chromebook external DVD or CD drive. External devices are limited as to the storage of readable files, and music files are not, without drivers, which cannot be installed on a Chromebook. ChromeOS users may be best off using an SD Card or External Hard drive. Chrome OS can read files on these disks if they are supported file formats. This means you can easily open images or audio files in ChromeOS from files on a CD or DVD. However, you cannot play an audio CD or a movie on a DVD or Blu-ray or write anything to a CD, DVD or Blu-ray disk. Chrome OS does not support optical disks to let you play music or movies. The primary reason for this is that Chrome OS doesn’t come with codecs. Codecs are necessary to compress and decompress large files like DVD videos. If you want to play DVDs on your Chromebook, you’ll need to install Linux. Since there’s no official support, it isn’t surprising that some discs won’t work. External DVD drives aren’t officially supported on Chrome OS...^IFV

I have the slim portable DVD writer and I am burning audio CD's with it.  Though the CDR's have 700 MB's of space, the writer will only let me burn a few songs , not anything close to 700 MB's.  It also is sketchy, sometimes it burns the whole  play list.

Asked by: JoanieBeau
Songs do not show MB's, only time of play but if you are burning MP3's to disk you should Select data not audio playback so burn the disk like a Data CD or many many more if its a DVD just do not use audio burning that is time oriented to approx 13 songs of 3-4 min ea or a few more if shorter. Some auto CD players will play MP3's and some do recognize dVD's.
