What people are saying
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible device for Mac Users I have two laptops, one Mac and one Windows. First, it is impossible to install and administer this NAS from a Mac so I had to use my very old windows machine. Second, you have to be wire connected to the NAS in order for the NAS detector to detect the NAS. Worse, the detector rarely detects the NAS. For the life of me, I can't figure out why the LG NAS detector can't find the NAS in 99% of the time even though windows explorer can find it on the network but the latter can not administer it. And that's the upside. The downside, my Mac can't even see this NAS on the network, wireless or wired. It's just a hideous piece of hardware. It's been extremely frustrating because of the countless hours I've spent on trying to make it work with Windows and Mac to no avail. Heed my warning, avoid this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Unit This unit is solidly contructed, fast, quite and a breeze to use. My primary use of this product is to stream movies to my home theater, which it does smoothly and reliably. My only sticking point is what appears to be a missing feature, the external USB ports cannot be used for attaching additional storage as advertised. They can only be used for backup. Disapointing as this is one of the features that I considered when selecting this unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Satisfied customer One of the smoothest installs of any peripherals I have. Used it for a month and have had zero problems. Pretty quiet too.

Internet Access security

N2R1DD2 - From the Network all the folders are password protected (for read access). Why isn't there password protection (read) from the internet ?
Asked by: Adolph
LG Network Storage supports FTPS with advanced security on the existing FTP for better protection of the user’s data traveling through the Internet. To use FTPS, and FTP connection program that supports FTPS must be used. The explorer program supported by the Windows operating system does not support FTPS. Generally most commercial FTP connection programs support FTPS and more details may be found in the relevant program manual. If this does not assist in this matter, then please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 for additional suggestions.

Have I lost my data for good? Hot swap problems.

I may have made an error. I bought a new harddrive since my two 1TB drives were getting full. I removed one of the full drives and inserted the new one to format. When it said that formatting would erase all data, I removed the other full drive as well and started over because I didn't want my full drive to accidentally be erased. So, I then went ahead and formatted just the single new drive. When I attempted to plug any of the old, full drives in they are no longer showing up. I tried accessing them on my PC directly and they show up, but I cannot access any of the data. So, I have two full 1TB drives that I cannot currently use and all of my files are stuck on them. Is there any way to fix this and access the files? I have a lot of very important documents on those two drives and there has to be some way to access them, there has to be!
Asked by: Scheirer
We regret the trouble you have experienced with this NAS unit and the drives included. The proper method to resolve this will depend on whether or not a RAID format was used on these drives. If so, then the correction could be very difficult. If not, and the drive will not operate in the NAS device, you may be able to connect it directly to your PC to review and utilize the data. On a Windows PC system, you may require an EXT3 filesystem driver. A Linux machine will still be able to read the data. Beyond this, we may need to assist in more of a one-on-one setting. Please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 for further troubleshooting.
