Will this machine show closed captions from the dvd on my tv?

That depends on the type of DVD discs that you are playing in the LG DVD Player with USB Direct Recording, Model # DP132. In almost every case DVDs will have subtitles or closed captions but that isn't always the case. Older movies or TV shows that have been put onto DVDs but not remade or remastered will sometimes not have subtitles on them. When you press and hold SUBTITLE for 3 seconds during playback, the language code will appear and you can press ◄/►to select another language code until the subtitle is displayed properly and then press ENTER ...^Ivan

I purchased this item to record purchased pay per view events onto a usb flash drive for personal use. How do I determine what size compatible usb flash drive to purchase to record the entire event (how many hours = size flash drive).

The LG DVD Player with USB Direct Recording, Model # DP132 supports USB devices with FAT16 or FAT32 formatting. A USB device that requires additional program installation when you have connected it to a computer, is not supported, and some USB devices may not work with this unit. You can connect a USB Flash drive to the unit and record from an audio CD or record the audio from a DVD. CD-G disc and Audio CDs encoded in DTS cannot be recorded. Please keep in mind that the making of unauthorized copies of copy-protected material, including computer programs, files, broadcasts, and sound recordings, may be an infringement of copyrights and constitute a criminal offense. This equipment should not be used for such purposes...^Ivan

The LG DVD Player with USB Direct Recording, Model # DP132 cannot play Blu-ray DVDs. 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray technology, Blu-ray technology, DVD technology are all backward compatible, meaning that each techno0logy can play the formats that preceded that technology. Since DVD technology preceded Blu-ray technology, it cannot play Blu-ray discs since the technologies are not forward compatible...^IFV

4K UHD Blu-ray, Blu-Ray DVD, and DVD technologies are backward compatible. That means that each technology can playback the technolgies that preceded it. The LG DVD Player with USB Direct Recording, Model # DP132 is a DVD player so the only technology that preceded it was the CD technology so it will play DVDs and CDs, but it cannot play the Blu-ray and 4K UHD Blu-ray technologies that succeeded it...^IFV
