Does this have the same limitation on thunderbolt port of not supporting high enough wattage to keep the laptop charged while running?

Asked by: thexder1
The Thunderbolt™ 3 Interface on the LG gram 17” Ultra-Lightweight Laptop with Intel® Core™ i7 processor, Model # 17Z990-R.AAS8U1 has the same specifications as any other Thunderbolt™ 3 Interface used on any device regardless of brand or manufacturer so it will have the same power limitations. USB-C and Thunderbolt™ 3 both offer a maximum power delivery of 100W. The USB PD (Power Delivery) Profile is 5V @2A(10W), 9V @3A(27W), 15V @3A(45W), 20V @5A(100W). Your portable power bank or Type-C power adapter has to support USB PD...^IFV

Got really excited when I first saw the Gram 17 announced at CES. Then, I read the specs on the LG product page. Why, in a $1,700 laptop, would you use a SATA3 interface rather than PCIe NVMe and why is the LAN connection only 10/100, rather than 1GB?

Asked by: YzPlayr
That's funny. Yes the NVMe was answered earlier, but not really. The specs page (look just above these questions on this same page) for this device clearly list that the storage interface is SATA3. Of course, you could spend a lot of money and replace the included drive that LG will install with a NVMe drive, but if the interface is limited to SATA3 - what's the point? My frustration is that a device of this caliber should come with drives of and be connected via the faster NVMe interface. In regards to the LAN connection - again, the LG specs listed above clearly show that the USB-C port can be used as wired networking connection at 10/100. Maybe it's a typo by LG, but the way it reads it would seem that LG has installed hardware that limit that port to connecting at 100Mb, rather than at the more standard 1Gb.

I really like this notebook and want to buy one, but I don't use my notebook a ton, so it's hard to justify paying that much. An i5 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD would be much easier on the wallet. Is there something like this coming anytime soon?

Asked by: FredGarvin

When will this actually be available? When I click on where to buy, it says it's in stock at Best Buy, but their website says it's sold out, and Amazon says they don't know when it will be in stock.

Asked by: lightlaptop
When those retailers give the availability status for the LG gram 17” Ultra-Lightweight Laptop with Intel® Core™ i7 processor, Model # 17Z990-R.AAS8U1 as "Temporarily Out of Stock" it means that the laptop was available but sold out. Regrettably, we do not have access to any retailer's inventory and that information is proprietary. Amazon has a message under its "Temporarily Out of Stock" alert that says, "Order now and we'll deliver when available. We'll e-mail you with an estimated delivery date as soon as we have more information. Your account will only be charged when we ship the item." The Best Buy location in your zip code may show it as being "Sold Out", but other stores in a different zip code show it as being available. You can contact Best Buy's Customer Service or their Sales Associates to ask if it can be ordered from another Best Buy location that has stock and either have it shipped to you or pick it up from another store if it is close to you...^IFV
