Troubleshooting Your Internet Connection – LG TV

  • Troubleshooting

To troubleshoot your LG TV internet connection select the connection method below:

NOTE: If the router settings need to be configured, please contact your ISP or the router manufacturer.

  1. Ensure all cables are properly connected to the modem/router along with the LG TV, and the LG TV has detected the wired network in the TV settings.
  2. Check the internet connection in the home on another device such as a smartphone, tablet, PC, etc.
    1. If other devices in the home are unable to get a connection as well, this can indicate a problem with the modem/router. Please contact your ISP for further assistance.
  3. If other smart devices are able to access the home network, turn off the LG TV and unplug the modem/router from the power outlet for 1 minute. After 1 minute, plug the modem/router back into the power outlet.
    1. Wait for the internet light to come back on before the LG TV is powered ON.
    2. Verify the internet is connected to another device in the home then power the LG TV ON.
    3. Once the LG TV is powered ON, check the LG TV’s network settings to ensure it is on the home network.
    4. Test connection by using a built-in app on the LG TV such as YouTube.
  4. If not connected, go to Advanced Settings on your LG TV > click “EDIT” > Uncheck “SET AUTOMATICALLY” box > Click “DNS SERVER” > type in “8.8.8.8” > click “CONNECT” to test the connection.
    1. Test connection by using a built-in app on the LG TV such as YouTube.

If your are still unable to connect, you can begin the repair process online using our Request a Repair page.

  1. Check the internet connection in the home on another device such as a smartphone, tablet, PC, etc.
    1. If other devices in the home are unable to get a connection as well, this can indicate a problem with the modem/router. Please contact your ISP for further assistance.
  2. If other smart devices are able to access the home network, unplug the modem/router from the power outlet for 1 minute. After 1 minute, plug the modem/router back into the power outlet.
  3. Once the modem/router’s internet light is on, go to Wi-Fi Settings on your LG TV > find SSID > select your network name > enter password (if required) > select “CONNECT”.
    1. Test connection by using a built-in app on the LG TV such as YouTube.

    If your TV displays an error message that says WiFi is turned off, expand the section below for additional troubleshooting.

    • If your LG Smart TV will not connect to Wi-Fi and is giving the message, “Wi-Fi is Turned off. Turn it on to see the list of available networks that you can connect to and additional related menu items.” Please see the steps below:

      Note: Applicable for WebOS 3.5 Models: UJ60, UJ63, UJ64, UJ65, UJ77, SJ80, & SJ85

      1. Turn OFF Quick Start+ Feature
        1. Go to Settings > All Settings > General > QuickStart+
        2. Select QuickStart+
        3. Toggle switch to OFF
      2. Power Cycle the TV
        1. Power off the LG TV
        2. Unplug the TV power cord from outlet or surge protector
        3. Press and Hold the POWER button on the TV for 30 seconds
      3. Power Unit Back ON
        1. Reinsert power cord for your LG TV into wall outlet or surge protector
        2. Power On TV
        3. Attempt reconnecting your LG TV to your Wi-Fi network
          • Press Home > Settings > All Settings > Network Tab > WiFi Connection
        4. If your are still unable to connect to Wi-Fi, you can begin the repair process online using our Request a Repair page.

  4. If unsuccessful, try connecting the LG TV to your phone’s personal hotspot.
    1. Turn on Mobile Hotspot in your phone’s connection settings.
    2. On your LG TV, go to Wi-Fi Settings again and search for you mobile hotspot name.
    3. Enter password, if required, and connect to mobile hotspot.
    4. Test connection by using a built in app on the LG TV such as YouTube.
    5. If the TV connected to the hotspot, please contact your ISP for further assistance.
  5. If not connected, go to Advanced Settings on your LG TV > click “EDIT” > Uncheck “SET AUTOMATICALLY” box > Click “DNS SERVER” > type in “8.8.8.8” > click “CONNECT” to test the connection.
    1. Test connection by using a built-in app on the LG TV such as YouTube.
