What people are saying
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I've been using it for a couple weeks now and only wish the fan didn't constantly run, whether the compressor was on or not.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't cool I bought one last year. It just doesn't cool as well as a window unit. End of story. I bought it because the management put bars in the window after a break in, so the window umit wouldn't work. It has never worked as well. I've given up and just put a fan in my window. Waste of money and big disappointment.

My LP0817WSR Portable Air Conditioner is 1 yr old and has been working perfectly. Recently the E5 water tank full error code has been coming on almost every 4-6 hours. Seems excessive that the water tank is filling up that quickly. Thoughts?

Asked by: Ryan Donaghy
That may not be excessive given that the internal water collection tank in your LG 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner, Model # LP0817WSR has a capacity of about 2 pints. That would equate to 7.2 pints of condensate in a four hour period if you were using the DRY (dehumidification) mode which extracts 1.8 pints of water per hour. That would mean that you would have to empty the tank almost every 1 1/2 hours. However, if you are running it in COOL mode, it is not extracting as much moisture as it would when running it in DRY mode, but it is still extracting moisture. All air conditioners dehumidify which is how they cool your room, they are just not as efficient as standalone dehumidifiers and the DRY mode is more efficient for removing moisture. As the moisture is removed from the air, condensation forms on the evaporator coils within the unit and that condensate drips into the internal water collection tank. What determines how much water is extracted from the air is the dew point. Relative humidity and dew point are indeed concerned with the amount of water vapor in the air, but there are differences. Dew point is the temperature at which the air is saturated (100 percent relative humidity). It is dependent on only the amount of moisture in the air. Relative humidity is the percent of saturation at a given temperature; it depends on moisture content and temperature. As air is heated, its ability to hold water vapor doubles with about every 11-degree increase in temperature. If air is at 100 percent relative humidity at 60 degrees but is heated to 93 degrees, its relative humidity decreases to about 33 percent. Its dew point remains at 60 degrees. Even though the unit has a self-evaporative system that recycles the condensing water to cool the condenser, if the dew point is high, or if the air is saturated with water, the air conditioner extracts a higher volume of moisture from the air and the frequency of having to empty the internal water collection tank increases. The weather report shows the Dew Point at 75 °F and the Relative humidity at 85% in Cincinnati for today. That will definitely have you emptying the water collection tank frequently, especially if the weather conditions have been like that for a while in your area...^IFV

We’re looking for a unit for a basement with a window up at a height of about 65”.  How much does the vent ducting stretch/reach?  What is the maximum it will extend to get to the window?  Thank you.

Asked by: Pflegermann
The supplied exhaust vent hose for the LG 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner, Model # LP0817WSR has a diameter of 5" and a length of 5 feet. The length of the hose is specially designed according to the specifications of the air conditioner so it cannot be modified, lengthened or replaced with a longer hose as that would cause the unit to malfunction...^IFV

When AC is working, should every windows in the house be closed?

Asked by: mc135
Having open windows can prevent the air conditioner from cooling the room as effectively as it could. does this unit evaporate the water thru the exhaust [on ac ]or do I need to empty it or run a hose to a drain ? will a standard garden hose connect if needed ?

Asked by: pat the handyman
The LG 8,000 BTU (5,500 BTU, DOE) Portable Air Conditioner, 115-Volt w/ Dehumidifier Function and LCD Remote in White, Model # LP0817WSR has a self-evaporative system. It will recycle the condensing water to cool the condenser. If you live in an area of low humidity, you may not have to empty it. If you live in an area of high humidity when the internal water collection tank gets full, the LED display will show 'E5' and the air conditioner will turn off and you will need to empty the tank. A standard garden hose will not fit in the drain ports on this unit. If you need to drain the unit while running it in DRY (Dehumidification) mode, you can insert a drain hose with an inner diameter of 16mm (5/8") into the upper drain port...^IFV
