What people are saying

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great compact AC unit, Pefrect for a bedroom. We were gifted one of these units by a friend last year and due to the layout of our house and the small frame size of the replacement windows we had fitted a few years ago. Having had great expreience we purchased another recently and at a great price cheaper directly from LG compared to online retailers. Our options have been limited for in window devices. In the past we have had to use less than ideal (Or efficient) floor standing models - This LG is perfect for the purpose. Once paired with a smart plug we can remotley turn this on & off, or set a regular shecdule with zero fuss. We might get more for other parts of the house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TIGHT FIT, BUT WORTH IT ! This is the first window AC I have even considered in the last 8 years because of noise and weight. I liked the features advertised too. My wife and I while installing it would say many times, TAKE IT BACK, it's too big for this -()*& window. It was a very tight fit. Once installed and put into use in the ECO mode it has been GREAT and QUIET. We are SO GLAD we got it. We used the ACE BRACE to make sure it was secure and that made the install a tiny bit more difficult, but taking it out for winter will be a snap with that. So far it has been flawless and hope it stays that way.

My unit doesn't come with a drain cap in rear of A/C. Your web site and operation manual all shows the unit have drain cap. S/No 903HACQE7923

Asked by: rhc1095
I am in this situation currently with two units. I keep hearing and reading about a drain cap but there is nothing back there other than a small notch (dip in the medal on the bottom case). I'm now running into issues with water coming up to the front on both. Were you able to figure out a fix and or the cause? All I can think is to tilt it even more, which doesn't seem possible in my windows.

I own two units, one started to spray water inside and the other looks like it's blowing a white smoke or vapor now. How can I fix this?

Asked by: BrentB
Have you had both of your LG 5,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner, Model # LW5016 professionally cleaned since installing them? If the air conditioners are spraying or spitting water inside, there are several causes for that happening. The first reason may be due to a blockage in the drainage system. When there is a blockage in the drainage system, water can't get outside or into the plumbing, so it collects in the pan, which eventually starts to overflow. The force generated by the circulation fan can throw some of this water into the air and force it out through the front grille, but usually, the water just drips onto the floor. The remedy for this problem is to suck dust and dirt from the drainage hose using a wet/dry vacuum. Look for obstructions in the bottom of the drain pan itself, and remove them. The second reason may be due to an improper slope. Wall and window air conditioners are installed with a slight slope to the outside so that water will flow that way. If the unit slopes toward the inside because of improper installation or shifting, water can collect in the front of the drain pan and spillover. Check the slope with a level, and correct it if necessary. The third reason may be due to coil-freeze over. If the evaporative coils ice up, when the ice melts, water may drip from the front of the unit, and again, the force of the fan may turn the drip into a spray. Coils will ice because of a dirty air filter. This reduces the air circulation inside the cooling chamber. You should clean or change the filter at least once a month. The other cause for coil freeze over which is unlikely may be due to a low refrigerant level. This is unlikely because the refrigerant is enclosed in a closed system and the only way it would be low would be due to a leak in the system. Refrigerant has a very unmistakeable distinctive smell which you would have noticed if it was low due to a leak. This isn't something you can fix yourself. By law, a licensed air conditioner service technician must do it...^Ivan

We have this unit in our camper. The fan blows, but there is no cool air. The filter is clean. What could be the problem?

Asked by: Spar10
When was the last time that you had the evaporator coils and condenser coils in the LG 5,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner, Model # LW5016 cleaned? You need to have them cleaned if you have never had them cleaned. Because of the way they operate, evaporator and condenser coils both need to be kept clean to perform as intended and reach optimal energy efficiency. A dirty evaporator coil can experience a number of problems, including, impaired heat absorption and cooling capacity. A dirty condenser coil will have a reduced ability to transfer heat to the outside air and this can lead to a less effective cooling system. A person that is using an air conditioner that has a dirty condenser coil may find that the unit no longer provides adequate cooling...^IFV

Does this unit require any filter other than the pull out filter in front. I'm asking because I noticed lots of dust building up on the coils when I remove that filter part that's built in?

Asked by: Pumpkin head
Wipe the front grille and inlet grille with a cloth dampened in a mild detergent solution. Wash the cabinet with mild soap or detergent and lukewarm water, then polish using liquid appliance wax. The condenser coils (outside of unit) should be checked periodically and cleaned if clogged with soot or dirt from outside air.

Why is there water in bottom tray area of this unit? Need to be drained? Normal?

Asked by: Anonymous
We appreciate your interest in this air conditioner. There is never cause to add water to this air conditioner. It should also not require checking the amount of water in the machine, as the water that has been extracted from the humidity in the air will be re-used by the machine to enhance efficiency of the cooling process.
