Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable I have had this drive for quite a while as hardware goes, and it has worked flawlessly the entire time. The software that came with it is really useful, especially for the Blu-Ray function which wasn't offered in my machine at time of purchase. My only complaint is that it can't open the tray past the little spring loaded door on the faceplate. Not a big deal for me but worth mentioning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent multifunctional burner The BH12LS38 is an excellent blu ray burner that also provides LightScribe support. I can burn cds, dvds and blu ray discs as well as LightScribe labels. Installation was easy as was updating of firmware thanks to the LG website. Drivers downloaded automatically. The included software although a few versions behind current retail is useable for most required operations. All in all a great multifunctional drive.

my BH12LS38 wont read any discs. I am running windows 7.

Asked by: stroker15201
How long have you had the LG Blu-ray Disc Rewriter Internal SATA 12x Super Multi Blue LightScribe, Model # BH12LS38? Is this the first time that you have attempted to use it or had it been working before and then it suddenly stopped? If you recently installed this unit, is the drive activity indicator turning on? If not, you will need to check your internal connections again. When using Windows XP SP2, Vista and Windows 7, no special device driver is required. Your system, upon Power On and bootup after installing and connecting the new Blu-ray Disc Rewriter will recognize and load native software drivers automatically, but you can use the device manager to make sure that the device is working properly and that the drivers are up to date. If you had any previous CD/DVD/BD burning software that you may have had loaded on your PC you should have uninstalled that in order to prevent possible compatibility issues. If you forgot to, you may need to uninstall everything then try again. Make sure that the the CD, DVD or BD disc do not have dirt or scratches and make sure you have enough memory. Check that the the disc loaded in the drive is loaded with the read/write surface facing the right direction. Also take notice that Since this product supports Regional Playback Control Phase II for DVD-Video with CSS, a certain MPEG decoder card or Software without regional code setting may cause this drive not to read DVD-Video with CSS discs. This Drive enables you to change the regional code up to 5 times.Make sure that the unit is set for the same region as the discs you trying to read. If you still cannot get it to read, you may have to Call for a repair service. Be prepared to give as much information as possible of your system, environment, and the specific problem. (What happened? When? How long? What was going on? Were there any error messages displayed? etc.)...^IFV

Software that came with my blu-ray burner

Why do I have an "ODD Firmware Check" program that came with your hardware that does not want to update? When I do run the ODD firmware check, the program freezes up with no close or exit buttons to click. Do you still support the ODD firmware check program that came with my BH12LS38 blu-ray rewriter?
Asked by: Anonymous
We regret the trouble you have experienced with this Firmware Check software. We have not experienced frequent difficulties with this software. It is likely that it has stalled because there is actually no firmware update currently available for the BH12LS38. You may check our website at http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-BH12LS38 for additional update information.

Can this player read Blu Ray discs from the UK or any region?

I want to buy the second season of the show Sherlock on Blu ray, but currently it is only available in the UK. I want to know before buying if my player would be able to play this. On the product info it says that it is region-free, however some claim it wouldn't be able to play on Blu Ray players in the U.S. Others say it works on newer U.S. models. Could you clear up these discrepancies for me?
Asked by: Anthony
We appreciate your interest in this drive. The ability to view the content of these discs will depend upon the reading software of your computer. The drive is physically capable of reading any disc it scans, but it is the computer’s software that tells the computer how to process the data on the disc. If the computer’s software can read an ALL REGION BluRay disc, then there will be no problem with viewing.
