What People Are Saying

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Work Horse--but don't update firmware Have had two of these units in constant use for 3+ years. Speed was good. Options for additional interfaces good--mem cards, USB back up, USB print server, and optical drive are all handy. manual as good as can be expected, but. . . I would agree with previous review that upgrading the firmware is a BAD IDEA unless you really read through the notes and want to sacrifice ALL the RAID options. Further, the newest interface is a bit finicky and drops in-and-out of visibility for my media devices, but dependable for computers. Inability to exceed the 2TB is annoying, but well documented before I purchased. Latest firmware recognizes both 2TB HDDS but will not build a RAID and will not allow access to Drive 2. In effect I lost redundancy and gained no storage. NOTEs say you cannot "undo" firmware and have not tried, but wish I could. Product solid, updates suck. Did like the "home monitoring" option which gives web access to an attached USB camera--but only one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from AVOID! This device was, when purchased, as servicable NAS. After the latest update, however, it is UNUSABLE as a full featured network storage device. There is no support for basic features like RAID1 or JBOD. From what I can see, there is no way to map two drives at the same time. As a result, only one of my 3TB drives are being used. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! IF YOU HAVE AN OLDER VERSION OF THE FIRMWARE (2660 or prior) DO NOT UPDATE TO THE NEW FIRMWARE!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible device for Mac Users I have two laptops, one Mac and one Windows. First, it is impossible to install and administer this NAS from a Mac so I had to use my very old windows machine. Second, you have to be wire connected to the NAS in order for the NAS detector to detect the NAS. Worse, the detector rarely detects the NAS. For the life of me, I can't figure out why the LG NAS detector can't find the NAS in 99% of the time even though windows explorer can find it on the network but the latter can not administer it. And that's the upside. The downside, my Mac can't even see this NAS on the network, wireless or wired. It's just a hideous piece of hardware. It's been extremely frustrating because of the countless hours I've spent on trying to make it work with Windows and Mac to no avail. Heed my warning, avoid this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mac Users Avoid !! Not a Mac friendly product. To use with OSX Lion you have to install the new interface and firmware which requires you to re-format the disks and the process can only be done from a Windows machine. Those that don't have a windows machine get half a system which isn't recognized by the finder, cannot burn a Bu-Ray disc and requires you to purchase iSCSI as a separate product. There are much better products which actually work.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beware don't buy if you use Lion I purchased this unit a week before Lion was released to the public. One of the main purposes of purchasing this unit was to use Time Machine to back up my 3 Macs. LG has been known to have good technical support and promised an update in September. Here it is in the middle of November and the firmware is still not available. When talking with Tech Support on live update I was informed once again that they were working on it but the newer units have an updated firmware. When I pressed harder, it is the lower end units and not this current model. Lion being out for 3 months now you would think a firmware would be released by now

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Unit This unit is solidly contructed, fast, quite and a breeze to use. My primary use of this product is to stream movies to my home theater, which it does smoothly and reliably. My only sticking point is what appears to be a missing feature, the external USB ports cannot be used for attaching additional storage as advertised. They can only be used for backup. Disapointing as this is one of the features that I considered when selecting this unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Peace of Mind Love this product. Have stored my entire harddrive on it with a mirror backup. Feel that my data is completely safe. Easy to setup and use. Easy to access remotely, which is the main reason I bought it in the first place. Well worth the peace of mind.

We have an N2A2DD2 NAS drive and are moving offices and getting a new static IP address. How is the best way to change the IP address on the drive?

Asked by: jayr
We appreciate your interest in this network device. It is suggested to change the settings on the system to DHCP before it is moved from one location to the next. After the move, run the NAS Detector feature to ‘find’ the device. Once it has been located on the network, it can be re-configured to a Static IP address once more.

Are there any advanced DLNA diagnostics?

1) I cannot find any DLNA related logs in the Reports>Log section. Is there any way to see what clients are currently connected via DLNA? 2) Updating the DLNA library does not give any feedback on it's progress. Is there any way to know when the updating process is complete? Currently I am just watching the Reports>System Resources section to see if it is still active. 3) Is the DLNA updating of the library scheduled internally on any sort of interval and if so, what is it. If not, does this mean that I will have to manually update the library everytime I add a new file?
Asked by: Kaibutsu
I apologize, but no; there are no advanced diagnostics for DLNA file sharing. The only options available from the User Interface are to either enable or disable the DLNA service, to add a path to be shared DLNA folder, or to update the DLNA library. Regrettably, it will not be possible to determine what clients are connected to the system via DLNA. No progress bars will be shown, but once the job is completed, a pop-up message will state when it is COMPLETED. This will not, however, be noted in the log. New files added to the shared DLNA folder should automatically appear. If it does not, then you may try to disable the service, and then re-enable it. This should also update the library data. If you have additional questions, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.
