What People Are Saying

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light This is the best computer, light, fast lots of storage . I think the quality is also good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light weight, quiet, nice machine, a bit pricey. Needed a portable workstation, after research, decided on the 2018 gram. Wanted stability, good battery life, four or six core processor, virtualization support. Pros - Runs cool (14 watt thermal envelope, chip isn't going to work as hard as in some other machines, but then won't be constantly thermal throttling), 16 Gig ram expandable to 24, compact form, lightweight, strong case, Thunderbolt usb-c port, large storage capacity. Cons - SATA SSD's (slower transfer speeds), no option for a spinning drive (can't really securely erase an SSD), no option for a six core Coffee Lake processor (four core Kaby Lake R here), touchscreen is reflective and the brightness is marginal, non Thunderbolt usb ports are only 3.0, speakers are poorly placed underneath, OS is Windows 10 Home only with no option for pre installed Windows 10 Professional, or other OSes, warranty is minimal. Also, LG has a history recently of defective motherboards in its smaller devices. I have three phones right now with bad boards, two had the boards replaced under warranty, only to go out again shortly after the warranty on the replacement boards ran out. The last one I didn't have an extended warranty on. For this LG gram laptop, I bought a three year comprehensive warrantee. I also back up the system regularly. I like the size and weight, and the thing runs well enough as a workstation. LG has a nice thing going with the form factor and battery life, but the price is a little high, when you really look into what this really is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love it i like the touch screen as a option to use instead of the wireless mouse. I also was pleased with the easy set up routine. Backup lighting on keys can be low or high which is a nice option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight and great options! This was purchased as a new option for future computers used in a work place that travels a lot. Having the weight low but still keeping USB-c and Number keypad has been terrific.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome laptop I bought this laptop based sight unseen based on the reviews on the internet and my experience earlier this year purchasing an LG television. I am over the top pleased with it. The quality it first rate. I work for a major corporation and the IT representative at my office had a look at it and he too was impressed. It was the first LG laptop he saw and he was glad to learn of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing laptop! I can't afford to buy this one myself lol I wish I had one but from using my friends I am sold if I ever did get one I'd be thrilled LG great job with this model laptop it's better than my 17" Envy my new Pavilion from work I'd trade them both in for this one alone to bad I can't give 10 stars cause that's how good this product is

Rated 4 out of 5 by from LG Gram seems great Bought from Costco after review from Consumer Reports rated this highly. So far so good. Boots fast with solid state drive. Light weght too!The drive and high memory made the deal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Features and Light Weight I wanted a fast, powerful laptop computer large enough for mostly home use that's light enough to travel easily. With a 15.6" screen, 16 GB memory, 512 GB solid state storage, and long-life battery, at 2.5 lbs this LG fills the bill nicely. The touchpad and keyboard (including a compact numerical keypad) are all comfortable and responsive. With ample outut ports (3 USB standard and one USB C plus others), this computer should serve my needs well for years to come. Though pricier than some, I consider it a good value at current discounted price.

Are you able to replace a key on this keyboard with a pause/break key?

Asked by: techsupport
Hi techsupport. Regrettably, the LG gram 15.6” Ultra-Lightweight Touchscreen Laptop w/ Intel® Core™ i7 processor and Thunderbolt™ 3, Model # 15Z980-R.AAS9U1 does not have a dedicated Pause/Break key. You might be able to use the following as a substitute for Break: Ctrl + Fn + F11 or Fn + B or Fn + Ctrl + B or Ctrl + Fn + B or Fn + B or Fn + Esc, or Ctrl + Fn + Shift. Substitutes for Pause are: Ctrl + Fn + F11 or Fn + B or Fn + Ctrl + B, or Ctrl + Fn + B or Fn + B or Fn + Esc or Ctrl + Fn + Shift. On some modern keyboards, the Pause function is assigned to Ctrl + NumLock and the Break function to Ctrl + ScrLock and that might work on some programs...^IFV

What is the Thunderbolt 3 feature that everyone keeps asking about? I was looking at buying the 8U1 version of the 15Z980, which may not have Thunderbolt. What functionality would I be missing?

Asked by: P J S
Hi P J S. The LG gram 15.6” Ultra-Lightweight Touchscreen Laptop with Intel® Core™ i7 processor, Model # 15Z980-A.AAS8U1 does not feature a Thunderbolt™ 3 port. Thunderbolt™ 3 supports connecting multiple displays to your computer by sending video through the Thunderbolt cable using DisplayPort 1.2 video standards. This allows you to connect any monitor that uses DisplayPort or one of the compatible types of connections, such as mini DisplayPort. It uses the new USB Type C connector instead of the Mini DisplayPort adapter that earlier versions of Thunderbolt used. It was developed by Intel way back in 2011. When USB 3.0 was capable of data transfer speeds up to 5 Gigabits per second (or 640 Megabytes per second), the first generation of Thunderbolt was capable of twice that. But unlike USB, Thunderbolt could transfer multiple types of data: not just serial data to storage devices and peripherals, but also video data to displays. Furthermore, it was able to daisy-chain devices together, so you could connect a hard drive to your computer, and then a display to the hard drive, and everything would work as it was meant to. Not all USB Type C ports support Thunderbolt 3. Mobile devices like smartphones and tablets may use the connector, but the Thunderbolt platform is only available on Intel processors and most mobile devices don’t have Intel inside. As such, many USB Type C peripherals won’t have Thunderbolt controllers included. You can plug a USB Type C device into a Thunderbolt 3 port, it will work but won’t support Thunderbolt features. Similarly, a Thunderbolt 3 peripheral plugged into a regular USB Type C port will work but won’t support Thunderbolt features. Because Thunderbolt 3 brings with it the latest version of DisplayPort, you can use a single cable to drive two 4K displays at 60 Hz. If you like to edit videos or work with giant photo libraries, a Thunderbolt 3 hard drive enclosure can give you lots of super fast storage. If you’re willing to forego the 4K displays and focus purely on storage, Thunderbolt 3 could theoretically have transfer speeds of up to 5 Gigabytes per second...^IFV

Asked by: tehuti
