Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultra light weight I bought this laptop couple of weeks ago when Costco had promotion. I upgrade 2T M.2 MVNE SSD on top of 512 came with laptop. 2T ssd works excellently and very fast file transfer between C and D drive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super lite and very fast I doid a ton of research before buying a new laptop. I wanted lightweight and fast. The LG Gram delivers extremely well on both counts. Some of the review I read complained about battery life, but my laptop does great. I get about 12-14 hours on a full charge, running it down to just below 20% I'm extremely happy with my purchase. It was expensive, but definitely worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from so far, so good Got an open box deal on ebay so I got this at a substantial discount. Just spent a few hours installing updates and software. Very impressed. It is unbelievably lightweight. Screen is huge. I am used to 13" laptops and a 12.5" Chromebook so this big widescreen seems almost too big. Keyboard feels good. A bit disappointed that LG didn't put TB3 on all of these i7 models. Also wish they would have just used USB-C charging. But overall it seems like a great machine

how do you get 16 hours of battery life? Mine is showing that 67% is only going to last 6 hours. Although a minute ago it said 2.5 hours. What can you actually do with it to make it last so long?

Asked by: raksiam1
Settings such as screen brightness, and network connectivity will reduce the length of time a battery lasts. Running multiple programs will also have an effect on the battery life. If you need additional hints or tips on using your LG laptop, give our computer specialists a call at 800-243-0000.

Can I add an additional SSD drive for Lg Gram 15Z980-A.AAS8U1 15.6"? If so, what is part # ?

Asked by: CarolTexas
The LG gram 15.6” Ultra-Lightweight Touchscreen Laptop with Intel® Core™ i7 processor, Model # 15Z980-A.AAS8U1 comes with a 512GB M.2 SSD (Solid State Drive). It has two SSD slots and you can add another SSD in the empty slot or install two new SSDs. The SSD type is MV2 and is an Adata SSD. LG does not manufacture SSDs so we do not have a part number. You can find Adata SSDs on Amazon or in most Computer Stores if you want to stay with the brand that comes installed on the laptop or inquire about other brands... ^IFV

What is the Thunderbolt 3 feature that everyone keeps asking about? I was looking at buying the 8U1 version of the 15Z980, which may not have Thunderbolt. What functionality would I be missing?

Asked by: P J S
Hi P J S. The LG gram 15.6” Ultra-Lightweight Touchscreen Laptop with Intel® Core™ i7 processor, Model # 15Z980-A.AAS8U1 does not feature a Thunderbolt™ 3 port. Thunderbolt™ 3 supports connecting multiple displays to your computer by sending video through the Thunderbolt cable using DisplayPort 1.2 video standards. This allows you to connect any monitor that uses DisplayPort or one of the compatible types of connections, such as mini DisplayPort. It uses the new USB Type C connector instead of the Mini DisplayPort adapter that earlier versions of Thunderbolt used. It was developed by Intel way back in 2011. When USB 3.0 was capable of data transfer speeds up to 5 Gigabits per second (or 640 Megabytes per second), the first generation of Thunderbolt was capable of twice that. But unlike USB, Thunderbolt could transfer multiple types of data: not just serial data to storage devices and peripherals, but also video data to displays. Furthermore, it was able to daisy-chain devices together, so you could connect a hard drive to your computer, and then a display to the hard drive, and everything would work as it was meant to. Not all USB Type C ports support Thunderbolt 3. Mobile devices like smartphones and tablets may use the connector, but the Thunderbolt platform is only available on Intel processors and most mobile devices don’t have Intel inside. As such, many USB Type C peripherals won’t have Thunderbolt controllers included. You can plug a USB Type C device into a Thunderbolt 3 port, it will work but won’t support Thunderbolt features. Similarly, a Thunderbolt 3 peripheral plugged into a regular USB Type C port will work but won’t support Thunderbolt features. Because Thunderbolt 3 brings with it the latest version of DisplayPort, you can use a single cable to drive two 4K displays at 60 Hz. If you like to edit videos or work with giant photo libraries, a Thunderbolt 3 hard drive enclosure can give you lots of super fast storage. If you’re willing to forego the 4K displays and focus purely on storage, Thunderbolt 3 could theoretically have transfer speeds of up to 5 Gigabytes per second...^IFV

Asked by: tehuti
The hard drive for the LG gram 15.6” Ultra-Lightweight Touchscreen Laptop with Intel® Core™ i7 processor, Model # 15Z980-A.AAS8U1 is listed as M.2 SSD with a SATA Interface. The M.2 slots support both of SATA and PCIe with the left slot being labeled as NVMe x 4 and the right slot as NVMe x 2 meaning that when an NVMe is connected to the left slot, 4 PCIe lanes are supported and when connected to the right slot, 2 PCIe lanes are supported and NVMe command will be used...^IFV
