Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good TV as a secondary TV like a BedRoom This TV has an IPS panel and I would not recommend an IPS panel TV for a home theater setup. I do not notice much, if any improvement at all on viewing angles to make the sacrifice on contrast that VA panel TVs offer. (Not getting into OLEDs here, but not an OLED fan either) I highly recommend a VA (Vertically Aligned) panel TV, and one that is a FALD (Full Array Local Dimming) TV for your main living room or home theater TV, even OLED over an IPS TV. Any LG TV that’s not an OLED is an IPS panel TV. I have this TV in my bedroom and it looks acceptable for watching cable at 720p or even 1080p BluRays, even 4K Netflix, but looks horrible when you compare it to my FALD Sony XBRZ9D in my living room. Once you get into HDR, this TV will not perform. Forget about the IPS panel, and the bad contrast ratio, which is probably the most important issue when it comes to picture quality, but this TV tops out at about 300 cd/m2, nits, which is a hideous number when it comes to HDR. Also there is no wide color gamut which is critical for HDR. If you want great HDR, look for a TV that puts out at least 1000 cd/m2, nits of peak brightness, which also takes OLEDs out of the search. Another issue with this TV is it is also edge lit, I would not recommend an edge lit TV for your home theater. Again with out getting into more statistics and dragging this out further, this is an acceptable TV for basic TV viewing as a secondary TV like a bedroom. For a home theater I do not recommend this TV or any IPS panel TV. I know budget is the biggest concern when buying a new TV, and there is a lot of hype with OLEDs, (I personally don’t like OLEDs flaws, image retention, limited brightness) but if OLED is out of your budget, I would highly recommend a VA panel TV, which takes LG off the list.
