A noise of water splashing or a pinging noise usually occurs when the unit is running. These sounds are normal and are nothing to be concerned over. The noise is a result of moisture in the base pan of the air conditioner being picked up by a fan. This action performed by the air conditioner actually helps the unit to cool more effectively by helping to discharge the heat from the condenser coil.
