ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., Aug. 21, 2007 - LG Electronics achieved the number one share of the U.S. market for residential front-load clothes washers and dryers, based on revenues, during the second quarter of 2007, according to market data from The Stevenson Company's TraQline report.
LG-brand front-load home laundry products reached this milestone less than four years after entering the U.S. market, aided by the popularity of innovations such as the LG SteamWasher."
"Desirable features, reliable performance and stylish design are attracting record numbers of American consumers to premium LG home appliances," said John Herrington, president, LG Electronics USA, Inc., Digital Appliances. "Our growth in front-load laundry is a direct result of listening to our consumers, and it reflects consumers' excitement about our colorful array of premium products and innovative technologies such as steam."
Technological innovation and design propelled LG Electronics to a leadership position in the fastest growing area within the home laundry category. LG's sleek designs and innovative colors, such as Midnight Blue and Wild Cherry, are helping to elevate the laundry room from the basement to more prominent locations within the home.
LG's breakthrough products offer enhanced convenience, advanced functionality and flexibility for today's busy consumer. Innovations, including the use of steam technology and LG's Remote Monitoring System - which allows consumers to monitor the status of laundry cycles from anywhere in the home - further enhanced LG's leadership position, Herrington said. The company also offers unsurpassed performance with advanced technologies such as the unique Direct Drive" system found on LG washers, which delivers high efficiency and quieter operation with less vibration.
The growth of this category is no surprise. Because of their convenience, capacity and energy savings benefits, front-loaders represent more than 30 percent of all residential washers and dryers shipped in the United States so far this year, according to the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM). "Front-load laundry is the fastest-growing category in major appliances," said Joseph McGuire, AHAM president. Industry shipments have tripled in five years and, thanks to new standards, efficiency is improved by 35 percent since 2000, according to AHAM.
