LG Electronics unveils the world's first commercialized XGA-grade single scan drive technology

- Introduced the industry's first single scan technology applied to XGA-grade PDP modules
- Plans to release a dual scan VGA-grade 42-inch PDP in the 3rd Quarter of 2004 with a contrast of 5,000:1 and brightness of 1,500 cd, each are world bests
- Aims to be the top player in the global PDP market with a 30% market share by 2005

SEOUL, KOREA July 13, 2004 -- LG Electronics has unveiled a 42-inch PDP with the world's first commercialized XGA-grade single scan technology. In doing so, LG Electronics has demonstrated its superior product technological edge compared to its competitors.

The single scan drive technology developed by the global electronics giant, which is applied to the XGA-grade PDP, requires a smaller number of parts compared to the previous dual scan technology. The single scan module offers a contrast of 5000:1 and a brightness of 1000 candelas. This technology also improves PDP performance, thus giving LG Electronics a price and technological edge.

The single scan drive technology, which was previously commercialized only for VGA modules, was difficult to commercialize for the XGA grade, due to such problems as excessive scanning time, complicated drive circuits and product confidence. LG Electronics has this time succeeded in commercializing the technology, the first of its kind in the industry, thus advancing the industry's technology. With this technology in hand LGE aims to be the top player in the global PDP market with a 30% market share by 2005.

Also, LG Electronics plans to release a dual scan VGA-grade 42-inch PDP in the 3rd Quarter of 2004 with a contrast of 5,000:1 and brightness of 1,500 cd, each are world bests in their respective category. The 42-inch product will exceed the existing industry bests of 4,000:1 for contrast and 1,000 cd for brightness.

Last year LG Electronics developed the world's first KK PDP module (with a contrast of 1,000:1 and a brightness of 1,000 cd), and last month released a PDP module with world's highest contrast and brightness (5,000:1 and 1,500 cd). LGE also plans to unveil a product with contrast of 10,000:1 in the second half of this year, thus consolidating its leading position in developing and commercializing picture quality technology.
