LG TV – Troubleshooting a TV With Sound But No Picture

  • Troubleshooting

At a Glance

In the event that your LG TV produces sound but fails to show a picture, potential causes could include a loose or faulty cable, incorrect input settings, or, in rare instances, a TV malfunction.

Note

If your home theater or receiver serves as a central hub for all external devices connected to the TV, make sure that the TV is set to the same input as the home theater.

Additionally, ensure that the home theater is set to output from the external device connected to it. If you are unfamiliar with how to operate the function/input settings of your home theater or receiver, you may need to directly connect the external device to the TV.

Try This

  1. Power on TV and press the Volume + / - button or the Home button.

The buttons are integrated into the TV's internal menus and should appear on the screen for every input when selected.

If the TV's internal menus do not appear on the screen when the button is pressed, the unit will need to be serviced. Please go to our Request a Repair page to schedule a repair service.

  2. Check the TV Input.

Occasionally, the TV may start up on a different input than the one previously used. This can result in audio but no video if an external sound system is being used.

press the Home icon button and select the input icon input and cycle through HDMI inputs until the correct video source is located.

  3. Verify the connection is secure and retry.

    • Unplug the external device for at least 5 seconds (if possible).
    • Disconnect the HDMI cable from the TV and move it to an alternate port.

    • To troubleshoot and determine if the problem is resolved, reconnect the device and switch the TV to the new input.
    • If still no success, replace the HDMI cable connecting the TV and the device, and then attempt the operation again.

If the steps above did not resolve your issue, the unit will require service. Please visit our Request a Repair page to schedule a repair service.
