Dispenser Does Not Dispense Completely - LG Front Load Washer

Troubleshooting Washer Dryer Combos, Washers Last Updated 02/01/2017
Dispenser Does Not Dispense Completely - Front Load Washer

When the detergent you added to your washing cycle is not dispensed completely into the washer tub, it may be caused by three major reasons:

  • the type of detergent you are using,
  • the amount of detergent you applied,
  • a maintenance related issue.

To solve this problem is not that complicated. Firstly, we need to know where the detergent is not dispensing from. This can only be from three areas on your machine which are Detergent Area, Bleach Area, and Softener Area.

Now, select the most likely area from the list below:

Let's check the Detergent Usage Guidelines to make sure you are using the best type and the right amount of detergent. In most cases, the wrong amount and type of detergent are the primary causes of dispensing issue.

Detergent Usage Guidelines

Use HE Detergents ONLY.

HE Detergents are referred to as Highly Efficient detergents. The next time you go out shopping for your detergent, look closely for HE Detergents, they are easily recognizable by the symbol of letters 'h' and 'e' separated by a red dot on a blue circle often surrounded by a white circle swirl.

    • Use the amount recommended by the detergent manufacturer.
    • Important: Use no more than the amount recommended by the detergent manufacturer, it's even safer to use less.
    • If you see soapsuds (bubbles that form when soap is mixed with water), use half of the recommended amount.
    • If needed, keep reducing your detergent until no suds are seen anymore.
    • If you live in an area with soft water, it may be necessary to keep reducing to as little as 2 tablespoons until you understand the right proportion that completes your washing cycle without any form of suds.
    • HE Detergents that are 2x or 3x times concentrated may require you to use even less than 2 tablespoons!
    • If using a powdered HE Detergent, the blue liquid detergent insert must be removed from the drawer. Place the powdered detergent in the cavity where the blue insert was located.
  • HE Detergents are already formulated to be used in washing machines that use less water. Fortunately, LG Front Load and Top Load Washers are highly efficient machines that use 20-66% less water and they have a reduced energy consumption rate to as much as 50-80% compared to a contemporary washing machine.

HE Detergents are carefully designed to hold soil in suspension in low water so that the soil is not re-deposited onto clean clothes. More importantly, HE detergents are very low and quick dispersing cleaners.

To enjoy your machine and avoid your dispenser not dispensing the detergent, USE ONLY HE DETERGENTS.

Bleach Usage Tips:

  • Make sure you use liquid bleach only.
  • Avoid using splashless bleach because it is too thick to dispense.
  • Make sure that the bleach compartment is clean and properly attached.
  • Check our Assembly and Cleaning section of this article for more information.

Note: During the Tub Clean Cycle, bleach may not dispense if the water supply is in the lower half of the requirement range. In this case, you can pour bleach into the main wash compartment or use a Tub Cleaner instead of bleach for a maintenance cycle.

Washing machine Tub Cleaners are more effective at removing detergent residue than bleach.

Fabric Softener Usage Tips:

  • Because fabric softener has a thicker consistency, we recommend that you dilute the fabric softener with water in ratio 50:50.
  • Make sure that the softener attachment is clean and attached properly.
  • Check our Assembly and Cleaning section of this article for more information.
  • Remove the detergent dispenser to make sure that the trays are inserted correctly as shown in the picture below:

Incorrect and Correct Detergent Tray Placement

  • We need to clean the dispenser drawer properly as shown below:

    • Pull the dispenser drawer towards you until it stops.
    • Remove the Drawer

    • Press down hard on the disengage button and pull out the detergent dispenser drawer.
    • With the drawer removed, remove each component piece gently.
    • Remove each compartment

    • Clean each component with warm water and a soft-bristled brush.Wipe any moisture with a dry towel or cloth after cleaning.
    • Return the detergent dispenser drawer gently.

NOTE: Do not clean these pieces in a Dishwasher.
