What is the lowest temperature this is set to go to? Is there a way to make it get colder than factory pre-set?

Asked by: Brian Gisotti
The thermostat for the LG 24,500 BTU Window Air Conditioner, Model # LW2516ER can be set between 60 °F–86 °F (16 °C–30 °C). There is no way to set the temperature lower than 60°F (16°C). All types of air conditioners work in a similar manner and it's important to note that the air coming out of the unit will not be at the temperature you set on your thermostat; it will merely be 15-20°F cooler than it was upon entering the air conditioner. Air conditioners are designed to make your home’s interior temperature no more than 20°F below the outdoor measurement. Most air conditioners have minimum thermostat settings at around 60°F. For example, if the temperature outside is below 60°F yet you decide to crank up your air conditioner for whatever reason. If the manufacturer incorporated low ambient controls, nothing will happen. The air conditioner won’t run. If those controls aren’t in place, however, the low ambient temperatures will make your air conditioner compressor’s lubricants too thick to function. Whenever anything mechanical runs without proper lubrication, you end up with excess wear and tear that shortens your air conditioner’s lifespan. The bottom line? Don’t run your air conditioner when the temperature is lower than its minimum, which is usually 60°F. Heat pumps are not subject to the same limitations. the temperature outside is below 60°F yet you decide to crank up your air conditioner for whatever reason. Please recommend a sleeve that will work with this unit. Thanks, JD

Asked by: JohnTD
There isn't a sleeve that can be used with this window air conditioner. The LG 24500 BTU Window Air Conditioner, Model # LW2516ER requires a standard single-hung or double-hung window for proper installation. The side louvers must be kept clear of any obstructions and must be left exposed to the outside. Non-window installations, including using sleeves, holes in walls, and other installations are not recommended...^IFV

I know a/c,s use to have r22 then they went to 410. Now I see it has gone to r32. Never heard of it as I did air conditioning for a living till 2013 when I got cancer. How does r32 cool compared to 410 ? Very curious.

Asked by: Ncar24
R410A is actually a mixture of R32 and R125 - the R125 suppressing the R32's flammability. The R32 Refrigerant used in the LG 24500 BTU Window Air Conditioner, Model # LW2516ER is a low GWP (Global Warming Potential) HFC refrigerant. It is a single component, zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) gas with a GWP of 550, significantly less than R410A's 1,980. It is classified as A2, or mildly flammable, under ASHRAE classifications. R32 is also more energy efficient than R410A...^IFV

I bought two of these units, and one the compressor stays on even when the power is turned off (we have to unplug the power chord to turn off the compressor), the other one the compressor quit working and throws ch34 at night with no compressor working.

My compresser isn't kicking off. It even stays on when the power button is off. What is causing this?

Asked by: Sonialynn
We regret the trouble you have experienced with this air conditioner. Is it the COMPRESSOR that is not shutting off, or is it the FAN, which is designed to run continuously? If the device continues to run, even when deactivated, then it may require service. Please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 to further troubleshoot this situation.
