What People Are Saying

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Going to get the Blue-ray version of this drive! One of LG's best products! Has continued to work with all my O/S upgrades currently at Win8.1 This has been a lifesaver and after all this time packing it around it still works like the day I 1st turned it on. Very low power consumption too on my tiny Acre One 8" mini laptop. It runs off only one USB port! Never have I needed the twin (2nd) USB power on the pigtail. I love not having to use more cables or DC power adapters with my portable devices. I only registered this external DVD drive to brag about it 2+ years after the fact. LOL :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great External Drive Bought this to upload OS for miniPC. Found it to be quiet, easy to use and solid performer. LG burning tools software included is a pleasant surprise; made burning CDs simple. I haven't used the lightscribe feature yet but intend to. Overall great value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not bad external Drive I had issues with installing, but that was because I was connecting to the PC thru a powered 7-USB hub. Once I plugged directly to the laptop, everything was fine. It's unfortunate two USB connections may be necessary. I haven't tested this unit much so far, but from what I've seen the software is very user friendly. The unit is light, sleek, with minimal footprint. Overall a good product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best ext DVD burner so far Have used this burner for CD and DVD copying. Works great. It is quick and has quiet mode. Plan to use lightscribe in the future. Software is very easy to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No fan belt. I am glad to have found this CD drive. It has a direct drive, no belt like the internal drives. Just when you need the CD burner to burn your favorite music the belt breaks. Not with this one because it has no belt. The ease of installing and operating this device is great. Just plug and play. Lightscribe works and use the flip side to burn with correct CD format. Like my Portable Super Multi-Drive GP08.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Easy to Use I am not a computer geek. I just want my equipment to work and I don't want to have to become a techie to use it. This device plugs in easily, I can burn cd's, read them and it's that easy! Before I owned it, I did not have any idea how often I would use it. A very good investment!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LG Super Multi DVD I bought this for use with my netbook. It is light and plays every kind of DVD even those from places like Thailand and Vietnam. Great item for the price and quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent burner So far, after months of use, I have had no problems burning DVDs or lightscribe. (approx 40 DVDs) Some Notes though: 1: You need to have 2 USB ports, I have a powered USB hub, so not a real problem, people having access to only 1 USB may have issues. 2: Very light, you have to hold the unit in place to close the drawer. These are the only 2 drawbacks I have found for the unit.

I am having problems installing the software

I purchased a portable super multi drive yesterday and I am having problems installing on my laptop. The laptop used to be connected to a network

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this Light Scribe drive. Once the drive has been connected to the computer, allow the laptop to install the drivers automatically from the Operating System. Once this has been completed, you may set up the software that is on the disc, directly from this LG drive. The disc will expect to use the LG drive. If you have additional questions, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

can you watch movies on it?

Asked by: Anonymous
as long as your computer continues to pick up the device it will play dvds. when you first installed the device it should have installed a program that allows you to watch dvds so you should not need a second media player in order to view your dvds.

Is this something I can use for an external hard drive back up?

What would you suggest I buy if I can not use this for an external haddrive backup? I basically want to backup my entire computer and do it on a monthly basis. Can you also help me with the cost could be? Thanks for your help
Asked by: Char
While it is, technically, possible to back up a computer on DVD discs, there is another option that may work better for you, and is more designed for your desired function. If you were to review the devices at, you would see several storage devices designed specifically for computer system backup and storage. Some also include LG’s Super Multi DVD Recorders as well. The model N1A1DD1 has available storage for 1TB of data for the backup from your computer. The N1T1 has the same storage, but also the Super Multi DVD ReWriter. Hopefully these will help in your considerations.

I Just installed the GP08LU30 Portable drive to my home computer which has windows xp software. I cannot get the unit to burn a CD.

The unit blinks like it is working but I get no indication that anything is writting to the disc. My regular cd burner on my home computer is not working so I was using this external one as a temp solution. Mike
Asked by: Mike
Many times it can happen in such a situation that the installation of the new drive is incomplete, when an old drive is still on the system. It is recommended to access the system settings and ensure that the driver from the old CD burner has been removed from the system, and not simply deactivated. Once this is done, restart the computer with the LG drive installed. Allow the operating system to install the appropriate driver for this portable drive. Once the setup is complete, make sure that your disc writing software is trying to write data to the portable drive, and not to the old drive. This should resolve the matter for you.

Won't open

I have pressed the small button and the light is flashing but I can't make it open.
Asked by: Gina
It is first recommended to properly disconnect the drive from your computer, and from the electrical source, if it is connected separately. Allow the drive to sit for about 5 minutes. Reconnect the drive to its electrical connection, a power the drive on again. Once it is active, try to eject the disc again. If it still does not work, then you may attempt using the emergency eject button. This is the pin hole that is located just to the right of the main EJECT button. Do your best not to make this a common occurrence, as frequent use of this emergency ejector can damage the mechanism of the drive.
