What people are saying

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Features We have had this going on 5 years and have had no problems at all. Great Product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Can a dishwasher be a diva? We have had the dishwasher for 4 years…ok, I admit the first 3 were great. Ran quietly, dishes were clean, no smell, etc. BUT year 3 is when the trouble started…it arbitrarily turns on & off, lights flash and beep…it’s become a very moody and unreliable appliance. It works for 5 days straight then refuses to work! In short: YES a dishwasher CAN be a Diva!!!! Also causes major cursing from our family. Oh, and did I mention: the racks rust, too!!! LG appliances look cool. I love the name. BUT they pretty much suck across the board! (We have an LG frig which is falling apart as well…for another review)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It’s on the fritz Have had this for four years and the last 2.5 yrs it has been awful. Constantly turning off mid cycle, led go off, makes all sorts of ding dong noises prior to just shutting off. And the racks are now rusting and falling apart. One of the worst dishwashers I’ve ever owned.

After installation, Is the dishwasher suppose to be proud of the kitchen cabinetry front face or countertop? Or, if installed correctly is the dishwasher FLUSH with the cabinets face?

Asked by: Hines
Like all other dishwashers, the LG Front Control Dishwasher with QuadWash™, Model # LDFN4542S is designed for installation in standard base kitchen cabinets. Standard base kitchen cabinets have a depth of 24" and if you look at the W x H x D dimensions for the LDFN4542S in its specifications on its product detail page on our site, its depth is listed as 24 5/8", so if installed correctly, it will be flush with your base kitchen cabinet. That 5/8" is barely noticeable...^Ivan

Does this dishwasher have a self cleaning filter?

Asked by: MRK6
The LG Front Control Dishwasher with QuadWash™, Model # LDFN4542S does not have a self-cleaning filter. The assembled filters have to be cleaned manually with a soft brush under running water to remove food residue caught in filters to prevent the build-up of odor-causing bacteria and possible drainage problems then reassembled before reinstalling them. It is recommended that you clean the filters after each load. If food debris remains in the filter, it may cause an odor. In areas with hard water, the filters should be cleaned at least once a month with a soft brush. There is a Recommended Filter Cleaning Schedule in the owner's manual that advises when to clean the filters depending on your number of loads per week...^Ivan

What does error code 42 mean. The dishwasher chimes and flashes 42 near the ending of the normal and Auto cycle. I think it may mean 42 minutes are left in the cycle?

How much width do I need to install

Asked by: Chuck faller
The LG Front Control Dishwasher with QuadWash™, Model # LDFN4542S is considered as a standard dishwasher and typical built-in dishwashers are about 24" wide, 24 inches deep, and 35" tall to fit most cabinet openings in residential kitchens. The actual width for this dishwasher is 23 3/4". There is no recommended installation clearance since standard base kitchen cabinets come in varying widths of 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 26.25, 27, 30, 33, 26, 39, and 42-inches. This dishwasher will fit into a base kitchen cabinet that has a width of 24". That 1/8" on either side is enough for installation...^Ivan

1.  How does the washer vent?  Front?  2.  Does it have a heat coil to dry the dishes?

Asked by: Uncle Allan
Like all other dishwashers, the LG Front Control Dishwasher with QuadWash™ and EasyRack™ Plus, Model # LDF5545SS has a drain hose that connects in the front of the dishwasher and runs under the dishwasher from the front of the dishwasher that you can then run through a hole in the side of the cabinet that you have it installed in behind the dishwasher so you can attach the drain hose to your kitchen sink drain so the water from the drain dishwasher drains through the same drain as your kitchen sink. There are 2 channels in the bottom of the dishwasher for routing the water and electrical connections. To allow for proper clearance of plumbing and electrical, you will need to use the template included with the literature to determine the clearance on the side of the cabinet where the cabinet meets the back wall. You will need to use a 2 1/2” diameter hole saw to drill a hole in the target area as shown on the template. Select a location as close to the sink as possible for easy connections to the water supply line, drain hose, and electrical connection. The dishwasher does not use a heating element for drying. It uses a Hybrid Drying System during the drying process resulting in superior energy efficiency and gentle care for dishes. Rinse aid is strongly recommended to enhance the drying performance of the dishwasher. In order to be more energy efficient, the hybrid drying system does not use a heating element to assist in drying, so a rinse aid plays an integral role in the drying process. If a rinse aid is not used, water may remain on the dishes and the tub. Rinse aid helps to ensure that the majority of the water has been sheeted off of the dishes at the end of the rinse and that the load is ready for the dry cycle. Drying performance is directly affected by the amount of heat that remains in the tub after the heated rinse is performed. If your dishwasher is far away from your home’s hot water heater, it may be necessary to run the hot water tap in the sink before starting a wash cycle, to ensure that cool water is purged from the hot water lines. This will ensure your dishwasher has a consistent supply of hot water from start to finish. Using the High Temp setting also aids in keeping the inner drum temperature and dishes hotter before drying begins. LG dishwashers are designed to be used in conjunction with rinse aid. Using rinse aid will maximize the amount of water that has already been sheeted away from the dishes before the dry cycle begins. If a rinse aid is used and the performance still needs a boost, adjust the amount of rinse aid used. 2 is the default setting, but if necessary set the level to 3 so more rinse aid is used. Water tends to bead rather than sheet off plastic and nonstick surfaces, making them more difficult to dry. If washing plastic items in a Normal cycle, select the Extra Dry or Night Dry option or both for better drying results. When the rinse aid is empty, the Extra Dry option is selected automatically. Allow the dishwasher to completely finish the dry cycle before opening the door. If the door is opened in the middle of the dry cycle, the heat that is necessary for the hybrid dry system to work will escape. This will cause all of the dishes inside to remain wet once the cycle finishes...^Ivan
