What People Are Saying

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but could be a bit better I've connected my Macbook and at times a cable box to my monitor. The display is high quality although the software doesn't allow changing the aspect ratio on the side where the cable comes in. Reading stock graphs and charts out of proportion takes a while to get used to. If the software could allow more adjustments when two sources aspect ratios it would be 5 stars across the board.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazed at the Great Features Purchased this with the hopes of replacing two other monitors. This one is sleeker, thinner, and believe it or not, less space than my other monitors. I was very concerned about the software needed to get 1 to 4 screens, turns out it was extremely easy! The colors are great, very responsive, and I usually change the number of screen i'm using through out the day. Very happy I purchased this and will be buying another one soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bigger is always better. I had been tossing the idea of working on two monitors for about 3 months. Originally I was going to treat myself and get the curved ultra wide. However, the specs on this and the value over the curved was a much easier pill to swallow. The color is rich and deep the multi panel software is great, and it works seamlessly with my Macbook Pro. I have never worked on a monitor this grande.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The BEST monitor money can buy! Here are some of the advantages of this spectacular monitor: 1. Extremely wide - have multiple column Excel sheets? No worries, this baby can display most columns on a report with ease. This monitor is also great for movie software (e.g. Studio 17-18). 2. Extremely bright - I also have an older aspect ratio monitor. It is dark compared to this LG monitor. 3. Split screen is an awesome concept because I can actually use this LG monitor like it is 4 monitors in one! After using this monitor, there is NOTHING out there that can hold a torch to performance, data visibility, brightness and just plain user friendly features. Note that the on/off switch at the center/bottom of the monitor is also a "toggle switch" which needs to be used for set up. This is undeniably the "best monitor ever made"!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4K? No Way - 21:9 is the right direction I bought this monitor on a whim. I wanted something fresh and new in a monitor. 4k is pricey, and out of reach of most consumers due to graphic processing demands - and 1080p is just old now ... I'm a well rounded user - I handle finances, word processing, web-browsing, video/audio editing, gaming, and watch movies; sometimes doing multiple things at the same time. Dual Monitor used to be the go to method for improving productivity in such a small space. The problem is, using two monitors can be awkward, especially if you don't have two of the same make/model. The break between screens is unnatural, and can make working with spreadsheets, video/audio editing software (such as Final Cut) cumbersome. What results is a monitor used for real productivity, and the second monitor is used to supplement another need (typically for multitasking through a separate utility). With this monitor, I get something I never had before. The space of two monitors combined into a single display. This monitor is a workhorse - designed with both Production Users and Recreational users in mind. We live in a high-tech world. We all use computers to produce something. We're all performing some kind of task, be it web browsing or database management; this monitor fundamentally changes the way you interact with your computer, and your projects. It just makes everything easier. Be prepared to experience gaming differently. For games that support 21:9 Aspect Ratios, you will find a world you've never seen before. You'll get new viewing angles. Every scene is panoramic - you can just see more of the world all at once. Here is the best part - low impact lag and more viewing space makes you far more competitive. If you are watching movies in the correct aspect ratio on a 4k display, you will notice the top and bottom of the display are chopped off. This is because you are watching a film on a 16:9 Aspect Ratio display. The movie itself is shot in 21:9 AR, which means that to get the view as the director intended, you need a wider format. The simple solution for the conventional 16:9 AR was to chop the top and bottom of the display off. Here is my question. Why on earth are we still making monitors at an antiquated Aspect Ratio? At the end of the day, monitors are meant to display data. The mind is wired to read data horizontally, not vertically. That's why we are more immersed in wider formats. That's why we shoot movies at 21:9 instead of 16:9. So, why not display all of our data in such a format? The truth is, we've all known that - that's why we have been buying two monitors, sitting them side by side (not one on top of the other). There are very few things to gripe about with this monitor. First, it isn't as vertical as you'd expect for a 29 inch display. You may want to consider LG's 34-inch ultra-wide display. I personally didn't mind this, but was put off by it when I initially pulled it out of the box. Second, Netflix and other streaming services assume you have a 16:9 Aspect Ratio monitor and have no options for appropriately displaying the movie to fit your monitor. For a true 21:9 viewing experience, you'll need to buy the BluRay Disc. Finally, I still want two monitors! Yes, I have more viewing space than I've ever had before - but I can just imagine amazing possibilities if I had two of these bad boys sitting next to one another. I think I'll pair this with the 34 inch ultra wide though. We'll see. If you are looking for a monitor that completely changes the way you work and play - this is it. Get it, Get it now. You'll thank me later.

Cannot change video output to the monitor  Whenever I try to go through the menu and switch the outputs and I press "ok" it goes black then goes back to main menu, it even says it's connected and it does the same thing when it asks to connect

Is the refresh rate really 75Hz?

I was curious if the listing of 75Hz as the refresh rate is correct, on places like BestBuy.com. I just bought this monitor and upon setting it up today with a DisplayPort cable (not HDMI), both Windows and Nvidia Control Panel show the maximum refresh rate to be only 60Hz. Is this supposed to be the case? Thanks.
Asked by: VinceTheStampede
We appreciate your interest in this monitor. According to the information listed on page 46 of the owner’s manual, a 75Hz Refresh Rate is available at resolutions of 640x480, 800x600 and 1152x864. The maximum resolution of 2560x1080 is available only at 60Hz. The Refresh Rate is to be a setting of the video card of the computer.

What is needed get this to work with a computer, I have a standard VGA HD 15 output on the laptop, and a cable to go to HDMI

Asked by: Coachmec
We appreciate your interest in this monitor. If a conversion cable is already in place, between the 15-pin VGA port and the HDMI monitor port, then all that remains is a compatible video resolution. Such resolutions can be found on page 46 of your owner’s manual. These will need to be set on the computer/laptop itself, in order to display the picture properly on the screen.

How can I get max resolution on this monitor via DVI?

It appears that the max resolution on this monitor is not supported via the HDMI ports. How can I connect from a PC DVI out to this monitor to get full resolution?
Asked by: mgdavey
The maximum resolution of 2560 x 1080 @ 60 Hz is supported via the DVI-D, HDMI and the DisplayPort as shown in the chart on page 46 of your owner's manual for the LG 29" Class 21:9 UltraWide™ IPS LED Monitor (29" Diagonal), Model # 29UM55-P.
