Your phone automatically uses a default Lock Screen to simply prevent unintentional function activation. You can choose to secure your phone so that only you can unlock it to make calls, access your data, buy applications, and so on. For added security to guard against unauthorized use, you can set a requirement (such as face unlock, pattern, PIN, or password) that will need to be entered to unlock it. You can also set no lock screen at all.
Follow these steps to set an unlock sequence for the first time or after you disable a previously set unlock sequence.

From the Home screen, tap Apps
> Settings
> Lock screen

Tap Select Screen Lock.

Tap None, Swipe, Face Unlock, Pattern, PIN or Password.

None: No lock screen is enabled so the screen will never be locked from use.

Swipe: A swipe motion in any direction on the touchscreen will unlock the screen.

Face Unlock: Unlocks the screen using face recognition. Keep in mind that Face unlock is less secure than a pattern, PIN or password because it uses generalized shape and dimensions to verify your face.

Pattern: Unlocks the screen using a pattern you draw with your finger. The first time you set an unlock pattern, you will see a tutorial with instructions on how to create it. Read the tutorial and tap the Next button. Draw your pattern (connect at least 4 dots) and tap the Continue button. Then re-draw your pattern and tap the Confirm button.

PIN: Unlocks the screen with a number sequence. Enter a PIN (at least 4 digits) and tap the Continue button. Re-enter your PIN and tap the OK button to confirm it.

Password: Unlocks the screen with an alphanumeric sequence. Enter a password (at least 4 characters) and tap the Continue button. Re-enter your password and tap the OK button to confirm it.

From then on, any time you want to turn the phone on or unlock the screen, you will need to perform the unlock action you set to gain access to the device.
Note: Follow the on-screen instructions to create a backup PIN number in case you forget your pattern.
Depending on your Microsoft Exchange account setup, you may only be allowed to set up a password to unlock the screen.

From the Home screen, tap Apps

Tap Select screen lock.

Enter your current unlock sequence.

Tap None, Swipe, Face Unlock, Pattern, PIN or Password.

Follow the prompts to continue changing your lock sequence.
You have 5 opportunities to enter your unlock pattern, PIN or password. If you used all of the opportunities, you can try again after 30 seconds.
After five incorrect attempts to unlock using pattern, tap Forgot pattern?.

If you have a Google Account on the phone, enter your Username (email) and Password and tap Sign in.
Or
Enter the backup PIN you selected and tap Ok.
You will need to perform a factory reset if you do not have a Google account on the phone, forgot your backup PIN, or are using another lock screen option (e.g. Password) and have forgotten the sequence.
Caution: A factory reset will delete all user applications and user data not stored on the SD card.
To perform a factory reset:
- Turn the power off.
- Press and hold the following keys at the same time: Home key + Volume Down key + Power/Lock key.
- Release all of the keys when the Android robot animation is displayed.
- The phone will perform a factory reset and reboot to your Home screen.
The Lock timer setting automatically enables the lock screen after a period of time from when the screen darkens due to inactivity.

From the Home screen, tap Apps

Tap Lock timer and select an option. Your screen will now automatically lock after the period you selected.

Power button instantly locks box to instantly lock the screen by pressing the Power/Lock key.
Note: Requires an enabled security lock.
