Certifications Highlight Company’s Environmentally-Conscious Initiatives and Credentials

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., Dec. 28, 2012 LG Electronics (LG) announced that it has earned CarbonFree® certification for six new consumer electronics, mobile phone and home appliance products that will be highlighted at next month’s International CES® further validating the company’s global strategy to reduce its carbon footprint and develop products with an eye towards the environment.

According to LG Electronics President and Chief Technology Officer Skott Ahn, LG is proud to have achieved CarbonFree certification for key 2013 products across major categories by the Foundation, an organization leading the fight against global warming by helping individuals and businesses to reduce and offset their climate impact.

The latest LG products certified as CarbonFree include the Optimus G smartphone, OLED TV, washing machine, refrigerator, vacuum cleaner and computer monitor.   These products achieved certification after a comprehensive lifecycle analysis that determined the carbon footprint of each product throughout the whole manufacturing process, spanning manufacturing and shipment to usage and final disposal. partner organization NSF Sustainability manages the CarbonFree offset program and assisted LG with this process.

“As a company that strives to be environmentally responsible, we have further strengthened our commitment to bringing energy-efficient products to market,” said Dr. Ahn. “I’ll be the first to admit that this is a marathon, not a sprint, and fortunately, we’re off to a great start.”

Under the CarbonFree Certified Product program, LG has offset the carbon footprint of the manufacturing of these products at no extra cost to the customer through the use of third-party verified carbon reduction projects.

The newest LG CarbonFree-certified products will be demonstrated at the 2013 International CES® (Booth #8204, Central Hall, Las Vegas Convention Center).  LG Electronics was the first in its industry, beginning in 2011, to distribute home appliances, solar panels and other consumer electronics that were part of the CarbonFree Certified Product Program.

Dr. Ahn said LG’s CarbonFree Certified Products represent another step in the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability and energy-efficient products and services, including a wide range of ENERGY STAR® -qualified appliances and electronics products.
